For people with diabetes, controlling blood glucose level (BGL) is a significant issue since the disease affects how the body metabolizes food, which makes careful insulin regulation necessary. Patients have to manually check their blood sugar levels, which can be laborious and inaccurate. Many variables affect BGL changes, making accurate prediction challenging.

Minimising cycle time without inducing quality defects is a major challenge in injection moulding (IM). Design of Experiment methods (DoE) have been widely studied for optimisation of injection moulding, however existing methods have limitations, including the need for a large number of experiments within a pre-determined search space. Bayesian adaptive design of experiment (ADoE) is an iterative process where the results of the previous experiments are used to make an informed selection for the next design.

Biochar is extensively utilized for the remediation of environments contaminated with heavy metals (HMs). However, its derived-dissolved organic matter (BDOM) can interact with iron oxides, which may adversely influence the retention of HMs. This study investigates the effect of BDOM derived from tobacco stalk (TS) and tobacco petiole (TP) biochar on the redistribution behavior of As(V) in acid mine drainage (AMD)-impacted environments, particularly concentrating on the interactions with Schwertmannite (Sch).

The World Health Organization announced critically important bacterial and fungal pathogens displaying alarming levels of antimicrobial resistance, which currently represent difficult-to-treat cases of morbidity. Within this grouping, the ESKAPE pathogens (, , , , , and species) are causative of significant morbidity and mortality. Studies described herein demonstrate the presence of critically important fungal and ESKAPE bacterial species in companion animals which are zoonotic in nature.

Endometriosis is an oestrogen-dependent inflammatory disease affecting menstruating women, with varying levels of severity. Oestrogen dysregulation is responsible for chronic inflammation, angiogenesis, endometrial lesion development, progression, and infertility during menarche in afflicted women. The inflammatory mediators associated with this chronic painful disease have been established, with research also indicating the relationship between dysbiosis and disease manifestation.

Chemistry is often associated with formal learning environments and has been described as overly serious by the general public, lacking some of the fun and energy of other sciences. However, it is difficult to provide hands-on chemistry activities outside the lab and other formal learning environments. Here, a simple electrochemistry based activity has been used for public engagement using household items and play dough to create a fun and playful experience for all ages.

Additive manufacturing has received significant interest in the fabrication of functional channels for heat transfer; however, the inherent rough surface finish of the additively manufactured channels can influence thermal performance. This study investigates the impact of roughness on the thermo-fluid characteristics of laminar forced convection in rough minichannels. A numerical model was developed to create 3D Gaussian roughness with specified root-mean-square height.

Electrospun nanofibrous mats, consisting of chitosan (CS) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), were constructed with the addition of graphene oxide (GO) for enhancement of delivery of the 5-Fluorouracil (5-Fu) chemotherapy drug. Upon studying the range of GO concentrations in CS/PVP, the concentration of 0.2% / GO was chosen for inclusion in the drug delivery model.

Unlabelled: In the production of polymeric drug delivery devices, dissolution profile and mechanical properties of the drug loaded polymeric matrix are considered important Critical Quality Attributes (CQA) for quality assurance. However, currently the industry relies on offline testing methods which are destructive, slow, labour intensive, and costly. In this work, a real-time method for predicting these CQAs in a Hot Melt Extrusion (HME) process is explored using in-line NIR and temperature sensors together with Machine Learning (ML) algorithms.

Currently, cutting-edge Additive Manufacturing techniques, such as Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM), offer manufacturers a valuable avenue, especially in biomedical devices. These techniques produce intricate porous structures that draw inspiration from nature, boast biocompatibility, and effectively counter the adverse issues tied to solid implants, including stress shielding, cortical hypertrophy, and micromotions. Within the domain of such porous structures, Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) configurations, specifically the Gyroid, Diamond, and Primitive designs, exhibit exceptional performance due to their bioinspired forms and remarkable mechanical and fatigue properties, outshining other porous counterparts.

Access to medical and supportive care services is important for the health and quality of life of cancer survivors; however, services are not always available or accessible to all survivors equally. This study aims to explore the experiences of cancer services among cancer survivors in urban and rural settings to inform social work practice. Authors conducted interviews with 25 cancer survivors (colorectal, n = 13; hematological, n = 12) in the West of Ireland, using a narrative inquiry approach.

Monitoring the nutritional health of cetaceans has become increasingly important in a changing environment, where multiple stressors impact animals. Particularly for those species that require consumption of energy-dense prey, such as the common dolphin. Thus far, no uniform measure for monitoring body condition has been recommended across cetaceans, and species-specific measures may need to be developed if employed as a population condition indicator under Descriptor 1 of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
