Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is defined as the development of AKI in the context of a potentially life-threatening organ dysfunction attributed to an abnormal immune response to infection. SA-AKI has been associated with increased mortality when compared to sepsis or AKI alone. Therefore, its early recognition is of the utmost importance in terms of its morbidity and mortality rates.

Objective: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) represents an increasingly encountered condition in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of the present study is to assess the progress of health-related quality of life following transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TELD) for LDH in patients suffering from RA.
Methods: Seventy-four patients, scheduled to undergo elective TELD for LDH, were prospectively enrolled in the study.

Purpose Of The Review: Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) represent foods that have undergone substantial industrial processing, such as the addition of preservatives and various other ingredients, thereby making them more tasty, appealing and easy to consume. UPFs are often rich in sugars, saturated fats and salt, while they are low in essential nutrients. The aim of this review is to examine the relationship between the widespread consumption of UPFs and the development of obesity among children and adolescents.

Background Context: Spondylodiscitis management presents significant clinical challenges, particularly in critically ill patients, where the risks and benefits of surgical intervention must be carefully balanced. The optimal timing of surgery in this context remains a subject of debate.
Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of early surgery versus delayed surgery or conservative management in critically ill patients with de novo pyogenic spondylodiscitis.

Background: Cabazitaxel is an effective treatment in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients previously exposed to docetaxel and novel hormonal treatments. Understanding the molecular biology of mCRPC disease and taking into account the several approved treatment options, biomarkers are needed to guide decision making including cabazitaxel treatment.
Methods: Cababone was a phase II translational study that attempted to identify predictors of cabazitaxel efficacy.

Objective: Extraforaminal lumbar disc herniation (ELDH) represents a unique clinical entity, presenting particular challenges in surgical management. Transforaminal lumbar endoscopic discectomy (TLED) represents a minimally invasive, full-endoscopic procedure that is increasingly selected for surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation, being theoretically ideal in patients with ELDH. Performance of TLED for management of ELDH has been reported in specific studies in the recent literature.

Resting metabolic rate (RMR) is an important contributor of energy balance and displays a well-documented relationship with sex, age, race and fat-free mass (FFM) in the existing scientific literature. However, the impact of other body composition components such as fat and liver fat on RMR remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the correlation of RMR with body composition parameters in a sample of patients with overweight and obesity.

The ability to track disease without tissue biopsy in patients is a major goal in biology and medicine. Here, we identify and characterize cardiomyocyte-derived extracellular vesicles in circulation (EVs; "cardiovesicles") through comprehensive studies of induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes, genetic mouse models, and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and low-input transcriptomics. These studies identified two markers (, ) enriched on cardiovesicles for biotinylated antibody-based immunocapture.

Background: Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) describes the symptomatic compression of the left renal vein between the aorta and superior mesenteric artery. Whereas asymptomatic compression is a common radiological finding, patients with NCS can report a range of symptoms. There are no specific diagnostic criteria and interventions include a range of open surgical and endovascular procedures.

Objective: The human temporal bone comprises more than 30 identifiable anatomical components. With the demand for precise image interpretation in this complex region, the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) applications is steadily increasing. This systematic review aims to highlight the current role of AI in temporal bone imaging.

Introduction: Real-world data on management of metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) with novel therapies is sparse. The aim of this study was to capture real-world management strategies in patients with mCRPC who initiated first line (1L) systemic therapy with chemotherapy or novel hormonal agents (NHAs) in Greece and describe the therapeutic sequencing strategy among patients who advanced to 2L and 3L treatment.
Patients And Methods: In this noninterventional, multicentre, retrospective study (PROSPECT), a medical chart review of 149 patients with mCRPC who initiated 1L systemic therapy with chemotherapy or NHAs in 7 major anticancer hospital clinics, from public, academic, and private sectors in Greece was conducted.

Background/aim: Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) is a well-known lymphoproliferative disease with very effective treatment approaches primarily relying on purine analogues. However, these treatments are associated with profound and prolonged immunosuppression. Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and extremely aggressive skin tumor with an increased incidence in immunocompromised patients.

Breast carcinoma is the most common cancer in women. Nineteen different subtypes of breast carcinomas are recognized in the current WHO classification of breast tumors. Except for these subtypes, there are a number of carcinomas with special morphologic and immunohistochemical features that are not included in the 5th WHO classification, while others are considered special morphologic patterns of invasive breast carcinoma of no special type.

Aim of this study is to investigate the safety, efficacy and impact on Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) of Vertebroplasty (VP) and Kyphoplasty (KP) in the management of Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures (OVCFs) in elderly individuals. VP and KP represent Minimally Invasive Vertebral Augmentation (MIVA) procedures that are increasingly implemented for surgical treatment of OVCFs in recent years. These interventions have been associated with minimal traumatization and intraoperative hemorrhage, considerable analgesic effect and rapid postoperative recovery.

Background: Several anatomical variations of the ilioinguinal nerve branches have been recorded in older studies. Knowledge of these variations is useful for the improvement of peripheral nerve blocks and avoidance of iatrogenic nerve injuries during abdominal surgeries. The purpose of this study is to perform a systematic review of the literature about the anatomical topography and variations of the ilioinguinal nerve.

Infertility among women, particularly those living with obesity, presents a multifaceted challenge with implications for reproductive health worldwide. Lifestyle interventions, mainly focusing on weight loss, have emerged as promising strategies to improve fertility outcomes in this population. This review aims to explore the effectiveness of various lifestyle interventions, encompassing dietary modifications and exercise regimens, in enhancing fertility outcomes among women with obesity and associated conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, premenopause, hypothyroidism and eating disorders.
