Comparison of carotid artery ultrasound and manual method for pulse check in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Objectives: The success of the manual pulse check method frequently employed during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is controversial due to its subjective, patient- and operator-dependent, and time-consuming nature. Carotid ultrasound (c-USG) has recently emerged as an alternative, although there are still insufficient studies on the subject. The purpose of the present study was to compare the success of the manual and c-USG pulse check methods during CPR.

Can red cell distribution width be a marker of disease activity in ulcerative colitis?

Aim: The current study aimed to investigate the association between disease activity and red cell distribution width (RDW) levels in ulcerative colitis and to determine whether RDW can be used as a marker of disease activity in non-anemic ulcerative colitis.

Methods: The RDW levels of 310 ulcerative colitis patients who underwent colonoscopy were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups (active disease and remission) according to the endoscopic activity index.

Effect of epigallocatechin gallate on ischemia-reperfusion injury: an experimental study in a rat epigastric island flap.

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a polyphenol derived from green tea, is known to have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of EGCG against ischemia reperfusion injury in the epigastric artery island flap model in rats. The experiment was designed with two groups (control n=40, experiment n=40) of rats with epigastric artery island flaps.

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver diagnosed by needle biopsy: report of three cases (one with neuroendocrine tumor of the rectum and lung).

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver is a rare disorder that can histologically and radiologically resemble malignant neoplasms. The prognosis of the patients with hepatic inflammatory pseudotumor is usually good with conservative therapy. Most of the reported cases are diagnosed in the surgical resection specimens; only very few reported cases have been diagnosed by needle biopsy.

Olanzapine versus propranolol in essential tremor.

Purpose: In this study, we evaluated the anti-tremor effect of olanzapine in patients with essential tremor (ET).

Material And Methods: Thirty-eight patients with ET affecting upper limbs underwent a randomized, crossover study with olanzapine (20 mg/day) and propranolol (120 mg/day). Evaluation (baseline and 1 month after each drug) was done by using the tremor clinical rating scale and a self-reported disability scale.
