Measurement of Rectal Diameter and Anterior Wall Thickness by Ultrasonography in Children with Chronic Constipation.

Background: Measurement of rectal diameter by ultrasonography helps the clinician in the diagnosis of chronic constipation in children for whom rectal examination cannot be performed. The aim of the study is to determine the rectal diameter and anterior wall thickness values in constipated and healthy children and to evaluate the feasibility of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of functional constipation in children who refuse digital rectal examination.

Methods: One hundred forty constipated and 164 healthy children participated in the study.

Malignant Progression of a Superior Cerebellar Tentorium Solitary Fibrous Tumor in the Pineal Region with Intracranial Metastases: A Case Report and a Literature Review.

Background: Pineal region solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) incorporate a histologic spectrum of rarely metastasizing mesenchymal neoplasms that include tumors formerly classified as hemangiopericytoma.

Case Report: Here, we describe a rare case of SFT of the pineal region in a 25-year-old man with a literature review. After the first surgery, the tumor reappeared as a local low-grade recurrence, followed by metastasis to the right parietal lobe, and then hyperacute intraparenchymal hematoma at the metastatic site, and later presentation of widespread intracranial intra-axial and extra-axial metastases during the follow-up period.

Extensive widening of Virchow-Robin spaces in the frontal lobe: two case reports and systematic review of the literature.

Aim: To report our experience on giant tumefactive Virchow-Robin spaces (GTVRS) in the frontal lobe and perform a systematic review of previous reports on GTVRS.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective single-center study reporting the clinical manifestations, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging appearance, differential diagnosis, and management of two patients diagnosed with frontal lobe GTVRS at Bahcesehir University School of Medicine Goztepe Hospital in the past 5 years. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Unusual Neoplasms Related to Foramen of Luschka: A Review for Differential Diagnosis.

There are many types of neoplasms in or around the foramen of Luschka (FL), and definitive diagnosis in some cases requires knowledge of imaging findings. The uncommon and challenging neoplasms with FL involvement considered in this study are exophytic brainstem glioma, primary glioblastoma of the cerebellopontine angle (CPA), primary anaplastic ependymoma of the CPA, choroid plexus papilloma of the FL, solitary FL choroid plexus metastasis, extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma of the jugular foramen, paraganglioma of the jugular foramen, exostosis of the jugular foramen, psammomatous meningioma in the lateral cerebellar medullary cistern, epidermoid tumor of the fourth ventricle, and a hypoglossal schwannoma. These neoplasms may have overlapping clinical and imaging features, but some have relatively distinct imaging features.

Serum Neurogranin Measurement as a Biomarker of Central Nervous System Infections: A Preliminary Study.

The early diagnosis of central nervous system infections is of great importance to minimize morbidity and mortality. Neurogranin is a postsynaptic neural protein, and when the blood-brain barrier is damaged, neurogranin levels increase in both the cerebrospinal fluid and serum. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of serum neurogranin and to investigate its utility in the diagnosis of central nervous system infections.

A rare cause of hemoptysis in childhood: peripheral pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm to bronchial fistula in a case with tetralogy of Fallot.

We herein report a patient complaining from significant hemoptysis due to secondary fistulisation of the peripheral branch of the left pulmonary artery and the left bronchial tree, which was successfully treated with a transcatheter angiography.

Portal hypertension in familial Mediterranean fever patients.

Introduction: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is an autoinflammatory disease characterized by polyserositis and arthritis attacks, which are mediated by increased plasma levels of cytokines. Our hypothesis was that the increase in specific cytokines can also lead to portal hypertension, even in the absence of overt hepatic steatosis.

Methods: We designed a comparative cross-sectional study with 41 patients and 30 healthy individuals to show if there is a relationship between portal hypertension and FMF.

The Effect of Serum Magnesium Level on Stable Anticoagulation in Patients Using Warfarin for Various Cardiac Indications.

Warfarin is a vitamin K antagonist agent that inhibits clotting factors used for long-term anticoagulation. Time in therapeutic range (TTR) in patients using warfarin is one of the primary treatment effectiveness requirements. We aim to investigate the relationship between serum magnesium levels, the international normalized ratio (INR) values, and TTR values in people using warfarin for various indications.

Background: Prediabetes is associated with left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic dysfunction. A presystolic wave (PSW) is detected on late diastole from the Doppler examination of the LV outflow tract and is related to LV dysfunction. LV dysfunction could be detected with different echocardiographic methods, including conventional Doppler and Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), 2D speckle tracking echocardiography, and myocardial performance index (MPI).

Kounis Syndrome: Dexketoprofen-Associated ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

Unlabelled: Allergic angina and allergic myocardial infarction are common diseases associated with acute coronary syndromes and encompass a wide spectrum of mast cell activation disorders termed "Kounis Syndrome". We present here a patient with Kounis syndrome presenting with sudden cardiac arrest after intravenous infusion of dexketoprofen in the emergency room.

Learning Points: There are 3 types of Kounis syndrome, of which Type I, allergic coronary vasospasm, is the most common.

Vitamin D deficiency in patients with chronic hepatitis D viral infection.

Aim Of The Study: Vitamin D deficiency is known to be associated with disease severity, unresponsiveness to treatment, and morbidity among patients with chronic viral hepatitis B and C, autoimmune hepatitis, and alcoholic hepatitis. This study aims to research vitamin D levels in patients suffering from cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic phases of hepatitis D.

Material And Methods: 170 individuals in total were included in the study in the form of two groups: the first group of 100 patients with chronic hepatitis D (CHD), 30 of whom had cirrhosis, and the second control group of 70 individuals with similar characteristics to those of the first group in terms of age, type, and seasonal sampling.

Background: Our aim of this study was to evaluate the cardiac symptoms, coronary angiographic results, and clinical outcomes of patients with confirmed COVID-19 and ST-segment elevation with myocardial infarction (STEMI) or myocardial ischemia.

Material And Methods: Thirty-seven patients, who already were confirmed with COVID-19 using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), were admitted to our hospital due to chest pain with STEMI. The median patient age was 66 years (range: 27-84 years).

Effects of the different administration frequencies of teriparatide (PTH [1-34]) on new bone formation of expanded midpalatal sutures in rats: A histomorphometric and micro-computed tomography analysis.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of 4 μg/kg teriparatide administered at intermittent and continuous frequencies on bone formation in the expanded midpalatal suture region using histomorphometric and micro-computed tomography (micro-Ct) analysis. Settings and sample population: In this study, 24 Sprague Dawley male rats were used.

Methods: The experimental animals were divided into 3 groups as follows: Group 1: only maxillary expansion, Group 2: maxillary expansion with continuous teriparatide administration (2 μg in the morning and 2 μg in the evening) and Group 3: maxillary expansion with intermittent teriparatide administration (daily 4 μg/kg).

The treatment process of patients using warfarin is expected to be hindered during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore we investigated whether the time in therapeutic range (TTR) and bleeding complications were affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. 355 patients using warfarin were included between March 2019 to March 2021.

Comparison of ultrasonography guided serratus anterior plane block and thoracic paravertebral block in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: a prospective randomized double-blind study.

Background: Various truncal block techniques with ultrasonography (USG) are becoming widespread to reduce postoperative pain and opioid requirements in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). The primary aim of our study was to determine whether the USG-guided serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) is as effective as the thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) in VATS. Our secondary aim was to evaluate patient and surgeon satisfaction, block application time, first analgesic time, and length of hospital stay.
