The anisotropic behavior of fiber-reinforced polymer composites, coupled with their susceptibility to various failure modes, poses challenges for their structural health monitoring (SHM) during service life. To address this, non-destructive testing techniques have been employed, but they often suffer from drawbacks such as high costs and suboptimal resolutions. Tulip poplar () is a member of the Magnolia family, is a large, fast-growing, long-lived, deciduous tree native to eastern North America. One-year-old tulip poplar seedlings grown under field conditions in a commercial nursery in Warren County, Tennessee, exhibited severe root rot in May 2024. Dark brown to black lesions were observed on the affected roots.

The median age was 62 years (range = 27-94 years; 2:1 male to female ratio), with left-sided predominance (left = 21, right = 13; one case was bilateral).
