Background: A pathological complete response (pCR) rate after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is important for the prognosis of early-stage breast cancer. The prediction of an NAC response plays a key role in managing neoadjuvant treatment.

Aims: The aim of this study is to investigate the predictive value of the baseline PETCT FDG (F-18 fluoro-deoxy-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography) SUVmax (the maximum standardized uptake value) for pCR after NAC in early-stage breast cancer.

Comparative study on the effectiveness and safety of simultaneous and staged bilateral saphenous vein radiofrequency ablation.

J Vasc Surg Venous Lymphat Disord

November 2024

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Antalya Education and Training Hospital, University of Health Science, Antalya, Turkey.

Objective: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a common condition affecting more than one-half of the general population, with approximately 20% of cases being bilateral. The high prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment costs, along with the negative impact on patients' quality of life, underscore its significance. This study evaluates the clinical outcomes, quality-of-life effects, and postoperative complications of simultaneous and staged bilateral radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with bilateral CVI in the great saphenous vein at Clinical, Etiological, Anatomical, Pathophysiological stages 2 to 4.

Study Design: Cross-sectional Study.

Background: It is not yet clear whether the loss of proprioceptive sensation and muscle weakness seen in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the result of central nervous system dysfunction or secondary to spinal deformity. In our study, in order to find an answer to this question, we examined the microarchitecture of the nervus trigeminus, which is least affected by spinal deformity and contains both proprioceptive sensory and motor fibers.

Article Synopsis
  • This systematic review explores the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosing and treating urolithiasis (kidney stones), highlighting its potential to improve accuracy and effectiveness in medical practice.
  • The study analyzed 71 original AI research papers, revealing that AI achieved high precision rates in stone composition (88.2%) and detection (96.9%), as well as solid accuracy in predicting stone passage and treatment outcomes (around 82-87%).
  • The findings suggest that AI could significantly enhance management strategies for urolithiasis, but further research is needed to cement its role in routine clinical use.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of antenatal corticosteroids (ANS) on male and female fetuses without anomalies, specifically regarding mortality and short-term health outcomes in infants born before 32 weeks of gestation.
  • In analyzing 210 preterm infants, the results revealed that male infants exposed to ANS had a lower mortality rate (11%) compared to females (23%), but no significant differences were found in other health issues like intraventricular hemorrhage or respiratory distress syndrome, except for a higher rate of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in males.
  • The research concluded that ANS does not influence mortality rates in female fetuses, suggesting future studies could explore personalized ANS treatment based on fetal sex.
