Introduction: Pediatric coronal plane knee deformities can be treated surgically using hemiepiphysiodesis. The two leading techniques used for hemiepiphysiodesis are: tension-band plates (TBP) and percutaneous transphyseal screws (PETS). We hypothesized that PETS would lead to faster guided correction of angular knee deformities than TBP.

Hyperferritinemia in the elderly can differentiate the bad from the worst: A retrospective cohort analysis.

Both total-body iron stores and inflammation influence the concentration of ferritin in the blood. Ferritin as an inflammatory marker might serve as a prognostic marker in the elderly. Therefore, we characterized the clinical circumstances and long-term outcomes of hyperferritinemia (> 1000 μg/L) in hospitalized elderly patients.

Skeletal Changes After Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Osteopetrosis.

Osteopetrosis is a rare skeletal dysplasia resulting from an osteoclast defect leading to increased bone mass and density. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation can rescue the disease phenotype and prevent complications. However, little is known about the skeletal changes hematopoietic stem cell transplantation induces in patients with this disease.

Plantar pressure modifications in experienced runners following an exhaustive run.

Running-induced fatigue alters foot strike pattern. The purpose of this study was to assess plantar pressure and centre of pressure (CoP) trajectory alterations after a 30-minute run at sub-maximal speed in experienced long-distance runners. Plantar pressure data from 9 experienced heel-to-toe male runners was collected before and after a 30-minute run on a treadmill at a speed 5% above the respiratory compensation point (RCP) of each participant.

Purpose: Analyze fetal facial structures using MR imaging scans in an aim to establish normal biometrical measures of fetal nasal and mandibular structures for multiple gestational weeks, comprise nomograms and compare female and male fetuses.

Methods: A Historic cohort study of 255 fetal facial MR imaging scans was performed at a tertiary medical center during a 4-year period. Clinical data was collected from electronic medical charts.

Autoantibodies, which are antibodies that target self-epitopes, have considerable diagnostic, prognostic and predictive value in specific autoimmune diseases. Various infectious agents have been linked via numerous mechanisms to the formation of different autoantibodies. Therefore, estimating the prevalence of autoantibodies and anti-infectious antibodies in different populations is of high importance.

Post-traumatic arthritis of the sacroiliac joints mimicking inflammatory sacroiliitis: analysis of consecutive computed tomography examinations.

Aim: To assess the presence, prevalence and characteristics of post-traumatic, inflammatory-like changes of the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) on pelvic computed tomography (CT).

Materials And Methods: Sequential CT examinations from the acute (index) and follow-up post-traumatic periods of 24 patients that underwent pelvic trauma with SIJ involvement were evaluated and compared to 32 control patients with pelvic fractures that did not involve the SIJs. Index CT was evaluated for the presence of fracture, intra-articular step, and diastasis, whereas follow-up CT was scored for periarticular sclerosis, erosions, ankylosis, and backfill.

Vaginal postcoital injuries requiring surgical intervention: a case series and literature review.

This case series describes clinical features and management of women who required surgical repair of vaginal injuries following consensual intercourse in our institution during the last decade. As a secondary aim, we reviewed the literature on the topic. We searched our institution's database for procedures coded as "Suture of Vagina," excluding trauma not related to consensual sexual activity: between January 2008 and December 2017, 20 women underwent hemostatic suturing for vaginal injuries following intercourse.

Prognostic significance of reticulated platelet levels in diabetic patients with stable coronary artery disease.

Levels of reticulated platelets (RP) increase during high platelet turnover conditions, and have been shown to correlate with diabetes mellitus (DM) status. Little is known regarding the prognostic significance of levels of RP among patients with stable coronary artery disease (SCAD). The study consisted of patients with SCAD and DM, who visited our cardiology outpatient clinic between June 2016 and February 2017.

Atypical presentation of hemorrhagic shock in pregnancy: a case highlighting the developing field of emergency medicine in Israel.

Background: Occult hemorrhagic shock secondary to uterine rupture represents a true obstetric emergency and can result in significant morbidity and mortality for both the patient and the fetus. Multiparity and prior cesarean sections are known risk factors. Typically, these patients present late in gestation, often secondary to the physiologic stresses on the uterus related to contractions.

Acute onset of psoriatic spondyloarthritis as a new manifestation of post-streptococcal reactive arthritis: a case series.

Streptococcus is well associated with a myriad of inflammatory diseases. Among others, this bacterium is linked to the triggering of psoriasis and to post-streptococcal reactive arthritis (PSRA), an arthritis which is typically confined to peripheral joints. Three patients who developed acute psoriatic spondyloarthritis (SpA) following a recent streptococcal infection are described in this article.

Background: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at a high risk for life-threatening conditions requiring admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), but the data regarding the outcomes of these patients is limited. The present study investigated the clinical characteristics and outcomes of RA patients admitted to an ICU.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included RA patients admitted to the general ICU of the Sheba Medical Center during 2002-2018.

Mortality of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus admitted to the intensive care unit - A retrospective single-center study.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disease that results in increased morbidity and mortality. Under certain conditions, patients with SLE may be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) secondary to infectious disease flare-ups or other non-SLE disease conditions that are aggravated by SLE. The aim of our study was to investigate the causes and outcomes of ICU-admitted patients with SLE.

Bariatric Surgery Is Efficacious and Improves Access to Transplantation for Morbidly Obese Renal Transplant Candidates.

Background: The surgical risk of morbidly obese patients is high and even higher for kidney transplant candidates. A BMI > 35-40 kg/m is often a contraindication for that surgery. The safety, feasibility, and outcome of bariatric surgery for those patients are inconclusive.

Anakinra in idiopathic recurrent pericarditis refractory to immunosuppressive therapy; a preliminary experience in seven patients.

Background: Approximately 5% of idiopathic recurrent pericarditis (IRP) patients are refractory or intolerant to NSAIDs, Colchicine and corticosteroids. The empiric treatment approach for these patients includes immunosuppression with Azathioprine (AZA) or immunomodulation with intravenous human immunoglobulin (IVIG). We assessed the efficacy and safety of long-term Anakinra treatment in refractory IRP patients after failure of prior immunosuppressive therapy and/or failure of IVIG.

Diagnostic role of polymerase chain reaction in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid for invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in immunocompromised patients - A retrospective cohort study.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic role of PCR detection of Aspergillus DNA in the broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) fluid in a large cohort of patients suspected to have invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA).

Methods: Consecutive immunocompromised patients who underwent bronchoscopy with BAL sampling and PCR detection of Aspergillus DNA for the diagnosis of pulmonary infiltrates were included in the study. Galactomannan (GM) antigen testing in BAL and serum and BAL fungal culture were also performed.

Background: Pericardial biopsies are rarely performed during the diagnosis and management of pericardial diseases. The circumstances and clinical profile of patients undergoing pericardial biopsies are largely uncharacterized.

Footwear devices that shift foot center of pressure (COP), thereby impacting lower-limb biomechanics to produce clinical benefit, have been studied regarding degenerative diseases of knee and hip joints, exhibiting evidence of clinical success. Ability to purposefully affect trunk biomechanics has not been investigated for this type of footwear. Fifteen healthy young male subjects underwent gait and electromyography analysis using a biomechanical device that shifts COP via moveable convex elements attached to the shoe sole.
