Hemophilia A is an X-linked recessive bleeding disorder caused by various types of pathological defects in the factor VIII gene (FVIII). Preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disease (PGT-M) is a powerful tool to tackle the transmission of monogenic inherited disorders from generation to generation. In our case, a mutation in had passed through female carriers in a hemophilia A family and resulted in two male patients with hemophilia A.

Anastomotic stricture indexes for endoscopic balloon dilation after esophageal atresia repair: a single-center study.

Dis Esophagus

June 2021

Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Evidence-based Medicine, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University, National Center for Children's Health, Beijing, China.

We investigated changes in anastomotic stricture indexes (SIs) and stricture diameter (SD) between before and 6 months after the first dilatation in children with anastomotic stricture after esophageal atresia (EA) repair and identified predictors of medium-term dilatation success (success for at least 3 months). We retrospectively reviewed the records and measurement indexes of patients who underwent post-EA repair endoscopic balloon dilatation between November 2017 and August 2019 in our hospital. We identified diagnostic and performance indicators that predicted medium-term dilatation success by univariate and multivariate analyses and receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.

Reprod Biomed Online

February 2020

Normandie Université, UNIROUEN, EA 4308 'Gametogenesis and Gamete Quality', Rouen Normandy University Hospital, Reproductive Biology Laboratory-CECOS, Assisted Reproductive Center, Rouen F 76000, France. Electronic address:

Research Question: Can cannabis consumption alter sperm nuclear integrity in infertile men?

Design: A retrospective cross-sectional study conducted between July 2003 and December 2013, which included 54 men who consulted for male-factor infertility. Twenty-seven infertile men who were regular cannabis users were matched to 27 infertile men who were cannabis non-users. To complement the conventional semen parameter and plasma hormone level assessments, sperm nuclear alterations were explored using fluorescence in-situ hybridization to assess numerical chromosomal abnormalities, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labelling to investigate DNA fragmentation, aniline blue staining to examine chromatin condensation and a motile sperm organelle morphology examination to detect vacuoles in sperm heads.

Although progress was made in in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques, the majority of embryos transferred fail to implant. Morphology embryo scoring is the standard procedure for most of IVF centres for choosing the best embryo, but remains limited since even the embryos classified as "top quality" may not implant. As it has been shown that i) CD146 is involved in embryo implantation and ii) membrane form is shed to generate soluble CD146 (sCD146), we propose that sCD146 in embryo supernatants may constitute a new biomarker of embryo selection.
