In this context, the development of redox-flow batteries has emerged as a promising technology where charging and discharging processes are accomplished by the redox shuttling of the electrolytes, namely anolytes and catholytes.

Objective: The personal experiences of breastfeeding healthcare workers may influence the quality of breastfeeding support provided. This study explored the breastfeeding experiences of nurses and support staff in South India. Materials and Methods: A qualitative exploratory study using focus group discussions (FGDs) was conducted among nurses and support staff of a newly established tertiary care hospital in South India.

Access to timely cancer treatment initiation in India: extent, determinants and trends.

Background: Treatment delays are significantly associated with advanced stage, poor response to treatment, increased mortality risk, poor health outcomes, increased healthcare expenditures among cancer patients. However, factors associated with these delays have not yet been robustly evaluated. In order to bridge this gap, we determined the delayed time to treatment initiation (TTI) among cancer patients in India, ascertained its determinants, and assessed the trends of delayed TTI.

Rabies in rural northeast India: A case report emphasising the urgency of the One Health approach.

Dog-mediated rabies is endemic in India. The country records the highest mortality due to dog-bite-related rabies despite the availability of interventions to prevent deaths. We present a case study of the death of a 59-year-old man in a suburban town of Northeast India after a dog bite from an owned pup.

Inguinal hernia mesh infections: Chronic challenges, atypical pathogens and lessons in sterilisation.

Chronic mesh infections after inguinal hernia repair present significant clinical challenges due to biofilm-mediated resistance, involvement of multidrug-resistant and atypical pathogens, and gaps in preventive strategies. Our case series of four patients highlights critical research gaps, including the overlooked role of atypical pathogens such as , diagnostic challenges in detecting slow-growing or resistant organisms and perioperative sterilisation lapses, especially inconsistent Glutaraldehyde use during late-day operations. Many patients suffered with persistent sinuses and recurrent hernias months after surgery.

Application of the composite nanoparticles of selenium and chitosan for ameliorating arsenic stress in rice seedlings.

Selenium nanoparticles are well known for their antioxidant and stress-mitigating properties. In our study, composite nanoformulations of selenium and chitosan have been synthesized. The synthesized composite nanoformulations were 50 nm in diameter, spherical in shape, and had higher antioxidant activities and stability than the selenium and chitosan nanoparticles.

TP53 mutations and MDM2 polymorphisms in breast and ovarian cancers: amelioration by drugs and natural compounds.

Globally, breast and ovarian cancers are major health concerns in women and account for significantly high cancer-related mortality rates. Dysregulations and mutations in genes like TP53, BRCA1/2, KRAS and PTEN increase susceptibility towards cancer. Here, we discuss the impact of mutations in the key regulatory gene, TP53 and polymorphisms in its negative regulator MDM2 which are reported to accelerate cancer progression.

From Antipsychotic to Neuroprotective: Computational Repurposing of Fluspirilene as a Potential PDE5 Inhibitor for Alzheimer's Disease.

Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors have shown great potential in treating Alzheimer's disease by improving memory and cognitive function. In this study, we evaluated fluspirilene, a drug commonly used to treat schizophrenia, as a potential PDE5 inhibitor using computational methods. Molecular docking revealed that fluspirilene binds strongly to PDE5, supported by hydrophobic and aromatic interactions.

2D Titanium Carbide MXene-Interfaced Zinc Oxide/Tungstite Architectures Adorned Mixed Matrix Polymer Membranes for Oily Wastewater Treatment.

An exceedingly porous and interwoven fibrous structure was achieved in this study by interlocking titanium carbide (TiC) MXenes onto the electrospun mats using poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) as the base polymer. The fibrous membrane was further modified with the inclusion of zinc oxide (ZnO) and tungstite (WO·HO) nano/microstructures via annealing and hydrothermal approaches. Through these strategic interfaced morphological developments in novel TiC/ZnO/WO·HO heterostructures, our findings reveal enhanced wettability and charge-segregation desirable for promoting oil-water separation and photoreactivity, respectively.

Exploring the Therapeutic Role of Flavonoids Through AMPK Activation in Metabolic Syndrome: A Narrative Review.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of interrelated metabolic abnormalities that significantly elevate the risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes. Flavonoids, a diverse class of bioactive polyphenolic compounds found in plant-derived foods and beverages, have garnered increasing attention as potential therapeutic agents for improving metabolic health. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the therapeutic effects of flavonoids in the context of the MetS, with a particular focus on their modulation of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway.

Mitochondrial morphology is a result of regulated opposite events called fission and fusion and requires the GTPase, dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP1/Dnm1), or its homologs. A recent clinical report identified a heterozygous missense mutation in the human DRP1 that replaces Glycine (G) 149 with Arginine (R) and results in debilitating conditions in the patient. In this study, we mimicked this mutation in yeast Dnm1 (G178R) and investigated the impact of the pathogenic mutation on the protein's function.

Optimization and characterization of physicochemical, morphological, structural, thermal, and rheological properties of microwave-assisted extracted pectin from Dillenia indica fruit.

Microwave-assisted extraction of pectin from Dillenia indica (DI) fruit was optimized using Box-Behnken design to maximize yield and quality. Parameters such as solid:solvent (1:10-1:30), microwave power (200-600 W), and extraction time (4-10 min) were varied to determine the optimal conditions. Through experimentation, the optimized extraction parameters were identified as 1:23.

Background: Surveys based on capillary blood show that anaemia is rampant in India, but capillary blood haemoglobin (Hb) may not accurately reflect venous blood Hb concentrations. Further, iron deficiency (ID) is thought to be the main cause of anaemia, there are no venous blood-based surveys to confirm this.

Methods: A community-based (urban, slum and rural) cross-sectional, venous blood survey was conducted in eight Indian states to estimate anaemia and ID prevalences from Hb and inflammation-corrected plasma ferritin concentrations in adolescents, adults, and elderly.
