Urinary incontinence, characterized by the involuntary leakage of urine, significantly impacts millions globally, affecting their quality of life, social interactions, and psychological well-being. Traditional diagnostic methods and treatments often fall short, especially for refractory urinary incontinence, due to their invasive nature and limited scope for continuous, real-time assessment. This narrative review critically examines current approaches to diagnosing and managing urinary incontinence, highlights significant gaps in practice, and underscores the urgent need for innovative solutions.

Absence of Pericarditis Recurrence in Rilonacept-Treated Patients With COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination: Results From the RHAPSODY Long-term Extension.

Background: Rilonacept inhibits the interleukin-1 pathway, and extended treatment in patients with recurrent pericarditis (RP) reduced recurrence risk by 98% in the phase 3 trial, RHAPSODY long-term extension (LTE). Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-CoV-2 vaccination and/or infection may trigger pericarditis recurrence, and in clinical practice, it is unknown whether to continue rilonacept during SARS-CoV-2 infection. This post-hoc analysis of the RHAPSODY LTE aimed to inform rilonacept management in RP patients vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 or who contract COVID-19.

Delayed diagnosis and treatment of adolescents and young women with suspected endometriosis.

Study Objective: Early diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis in adolescents and young women is considered essential for improving their quality of life and for prevention of long-term complications. In adult women with endometriosis, significant delays in diagnosis and medical or surgical treatment have been described. Our study aimed to investigate the delay in diagnosis and treatment of adolescents and young women with suspected endometriosis.

Hysteroscopy-assisted suction curettage for early pregnancy loss: does it reduce retained products of conception and postoperative intrauterine adhesions?

Objective: To describe the feasibility of hysteroscopy-assisted suction curettage for early pregnancy loss and to investigate whether it reduces the rates of retained products of conception (RPOC) and intrauterine adhesions (IUA).

Design: Prospective single-arm cohort study.

Setting: University-affiliated Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Introduction: Sexual dysfunction negatively affects approximately 40% to 50% of adult women across various stages of life. Common risk factors include sexual traumas, relationship problems, chronic conditions, medication side effects, and poor physical health, including iron deficiency.

Objectives: This review summarizes a presentation from a symposium that discussed the types and causes of sexual dysfunction at key times in women's lives, focusing on the relationship between iron deficiency and sexual dysfunction.

Combined Utero-Ovarian and Round Ligament Oophoropexy for Recurrent Torsion of Normal Adnexa: A Case Series.

Study Objective: Recurrent torsion of otherwise normal adnexa (not involving adnexal cysts) has been reported in young girls and adolescents. Previous ovarian fixation techniques (oophoropexy), such as plication of the utero-ovarian ligament, appear to have limited efficacy in preventing recurrent torsion. A novel technique combining plication of the utero-ovarian ligament and suturing of the ovary to the round ligament has recently been described.

Prevalence of Skin Cancer among Beachgoers in Israel.

We assessed the prevalence of suspected skin lesions among beachgoers with dermatoscopy and evaluated their compliance with recommendations. This was conducted as a screening activity at a beach in central Israel. A dermatoscopy specialist evaluated beachgoers and maintained follow-up with them to ascertain compliance with recommendations.

Permanent or absorbable suture material for sacrospinous ligament fixation: Does it matter?

Objective: To evaluate success and safety of sacrospinous ligament fixation (SSLF) using permanent versus absorbable suture materials 12 months following surgery.

Study Design: Following IRB approval, the electronic medical records of women who underwent SSLF in the gynecology department of a university-affiliated medical center from November 2012 to September 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. SSLF was carried out using Capio®and Digitex™, with either absorbable (polyglactin-910 or polydioxanone) sutures (group 1), or permanent (polypropylene) sutures (group 2), Pre-operative and post-operative assessment included prolapse staging using the pelvic organ prolapse quantification system and validated quality of life questionnaires (Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory and Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire-12).

Recurrent torsion of otherwise normal adnexa: oophoropexy does not prevent recurrence.

Purpose: Recurrence of adnexal torsion involving otherwise normal adnexa is not rare. Various oophoropexy (ovarian fixation) procedures have been suggested to prevent recurrence; however, long-term information of their efficacy is lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate the recurrence rate of adnexal torsion following oophoropexy.

The source of obstetric violence has been vastly studied by psycho-sociologists who have conceptualized it as stemming back to ancient gender role theories.

Patients with hematologic malignancies have an increased risk of severe COVID-19 infection. Vaccination against COVID-19 is especially important in these patients, but whether they develop an immune response following vaccination is unknown. We studied serologic responses to the BNT162b2 vaccine in this population.

The surgical management of the cavity and bone defects in enchondroma cases: A prospective randomized trial.

Background: We compared the curettage/bone grafting and the curettage/bone graft substitutes surgical techniques in their relation to functional outcomes, oncologic outcome (recurrence, malignant transformation), the rate of postsurgical complications, durations of surgery and of postsurgical immobilization for hand-localized cases of solitary and multiple enchondromas.

Methods: The current prospective randomized trial analyzed 200 adult patients (2012-2017) with enchondroma who underwent surgical intervention. The cases were randomly divided into Group 1 (n = 100; F 56, M 44) for surgeries with curettage and autogenous bone grafting, and Group 2 (n = 100; F 55, M 45) for surgeries with curettage and bone graft substitutes.

Venetoclax combinations induce high response rates in newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia patients ineligible for intensive chemotherapy in routine practice.

Combinations of the BCL-2 inhibitor, venetoclax, with either hypomethylating agents (HMA) or low dose cytarabine (LDAC), have shown promising results in clinical trials of AML patients unfit for intensive therapy. We report on the efficacy and safety of venetoclax combinations in AML patients treated outside of clinical trials. Complete remission (CR) + CR with incomplete count recovery (CRi) were achieved in 61% of patients, with similar CR+CRi rates in with secondary AML, and in patients who were previously treated with HMA (61% and 43%, respectively).

Objective: Removal of retained products of conception (RPOC) by suction curettage or hysteroscopy may be required in the postpartum period, possibly causing intrauterine adhesions. We investigated whether rates of suction curettage, hysteroscopy, and postoperative intrauterine adhesions have changed over time.

Methods: Parturients considered at risk for RPOC were followed in a specialized postpartum clinic with sequential ultrasound scans.

Cognitive achievements in school-age children born following assisted reproductive technology treatments: A prospective study.

Background: While assisted reproductive technology is increasingly prevalent, there is concern amid conflicting findings reported regarding the long-term outcomes of children born following these treatments. The aim of this research was to investigate aspects of cognitive development in early school-age Israeli children born following assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments, compared to those spontaneously conceived (SC).

Method: This prospective follow-up study was based on an Israeli cohort recruited from June 2006 to December 2008, that included 561 women whose pregnancies were achieved by ART treatments and 600 women whose pregnancies were SC.

Developing a new flexible tool for handover.

Background: Transferring medical information among professionals and between shifts is a crucial process, allowing continuity of care and safety, especially for complex patients in life-threatening situations. This process, handover, requires focusing on specific, essential medical information while filtering out redundant and unnecessary details.

Objectives: To create and implement a tool for handover that would be flexible enough to meet the unique needs of specific departments.

Apixaban Level and Its Influence on Immunosuppression and Graft Outcome in Kidney Transplant Recipients With Atrial Fibrillation.

Background: Currently, there is limited information on the level of apixaban in kidney transplant (KT) patients with atrial fibrillation and the influence of apixaban therapy on the level of immunosuppression and graft function.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional prospective study of 19 KT patients treated with apixaban. The levels of apixaban were measured using a chromogenic assay calibrated for apixaban and compared with those predicted by the manufacturer.

Sexual Health Implications of COVID-19 Pandemic.

Introduction: A novel coronavirus (COVID-19) reached pandemic levels by March 11th, 2020, with a destructive impact across socioeconomic domains and all facets of global health, but little is known of its impact on sexual health.

Objective: To review current knowledge on sexual health-related containment measures during pandemics, specifically COVID-19, and focus on 2 main areas: intimacy and relational dynamics and clinical effects on sexual health.

Methods: We carried out a literature search encompassing sexual health and pandemic issues using Entrez-PubMed and Google Scholar.
