Objectives: It is still controversial whether autoantibody (AAb) serum levels have a value for response monitoring in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, we retrospectively investigated a real-life outpatient RA cohort to determine which factors are associated with change in serum AAb levels and RA disease activity. The primary goal of the study was to determine predictors for changes in DAS28 and autoantibodies over time and identify traits of non-rituximab treated patients, which would define strong association of disease activity with changes in AAb-levels.

Purpose: To determine whether salvage artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) implantation after prior incontinence surgery achieves outcomes comparable to primary AUS implantation.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated data of patients undergoing AUS implantation from 2009 to 2014. Functional outcome was objectified by 1-h stress pad test, uroflowmetry, post-void residual urine measurement, clinical examination, and chart review.

Objectives: To describe the operative technique and report outcomes from the largest series of patients who underwent single-stage dorsal inlay buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty (BMGU) for isolated meatal stenoses and fossa navicularis strictures.
Patients And Methods: First, we evaluated patients who underwent single-stage BMGU for distal urethral strictures (meatus and fossa navicularis) between 2009 and 2016 at our department. Clinical and surgical characteristics were prospectively collected in an institutional database.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical Maastricht Ankylosing Spondylitis Enthesitis Score (MASES) and an established ultrasound enthesitis score following treatment change in patients with spondyloarthritis and enthesitis with respect to the sensitivity to change and health-related quality of life.
Materials And Methods: About 145 patients with active ankylosing spondylitis (n=65), psoriatic arthritis without (n=66) or with (n=14) axial involvement undergoing intensification of their treatment were included in this multicenter study. At baseline, after 3 and 6 months, 13 entheses were scored by MASES, ultrasonography was performed for 14 entheses.

Objective: To analyze the effect of a risk-stratified disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD)-tapering algorithm based on multibiomarker disease activity (MBDA) score and anticitrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) on direct treatment costs for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in sustained remission.
Methods: The study was a posthoc retrospective analysis of direct treatment costs for 146 patients with RA in sustained remission tapering and stopping DMARD treatment, in the prospective randomized RETRO study. MBDA scores and ACPA status were determined in baseline samples of patients continuing DMARD (arm 1), tapering their dose by 50% (arm 2), or stopping after tapering (arm 3).

Background: In total hip arthroplasty, inadequate femoral component positioning can be associated with instability, impingement and component wear and subsequently with patient dissatisfaction. In this study, we investigated the influence of femoral neck resection height on the final three-dimensional position of a collarless straight tapered stem (Corail). We asked two questions-(1) is neck resection height correlated with version, tilt, and varus/valgus alignment of the femoral component, and (2) dependent on the resection height of the femoral neck, which area of the stem comes into contact with the femoral cortical bone?
Materials And Methods: Three-dimensional computed tomography scans of 40 patients who underwent minimally invasive, cementless total hip arthroplasty were analyzed retrospectively.

Background: A significant proportion of patients receiving CRT are non-responders. We evaluated the efficacy of Cardiac Contractility Modulation in subjects with reduced LVEF who, despite cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), continued to experience clinically significant symptoms.
Methods: This was a multi-center, open label, treatment-only, feasibility study of 17 CRT non-responders who received CCM therapy.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the clinically most prevalent rhythm disorder with large impact on quality of life and increased risk for hospitalizations and mortality in both men and women. In recent years, knowledge regarding epidemiology, risk factors, and patho-physiological mechanisms of AF has greatly increased. Sex differences have been identified in the prevalence, clinical presentation, associated comorbidities, and therapy outcomes of AF.

Objectives: We aimed to study the ability of board-certified rheumatologists, blinded to all prior diagnostic test results, to establish the presence/absence of an inflammatory rheumatic disease (IRD) or RA among polyarthralgia or arthritis patients, solely relying on clinical assessment.
Methods: We performed a prospective, examiner-blinded, cross-sectional study documenting the diagnostic work in four sequential steps (medical history, physical examination, musculoskeletal ultrasonography and laboratory tests) of board-certified rheumatologists in a convenience cohort of 100 patients referred for inpatient diagnostic workup to a tertiary care rheumatology centre.
Results: The ability to correctly identify patients with or without an IRD (diagnostic accuracy) increased from 27% after the clinical assessment to 53% after the ultrasonography and to 70% after taking laboratory test results into account.

Purpose: Spondyloarthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the musculoskeletal system driven by systemic enthesitis and typically involving the axial skeleton, ie, the spine and the sacroiliac joints. The purpose of this study was to assess the distribution pattern of inflammatory and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in spondyloarthritis.
Methods: Retrospective study of 193 patients with axial spondyloarthritis who received MRI of the spine and the sacroiliac joints.

Background: Patellofemoral instability may lead to osteoarthritis, anterior knee pain, and patellar luxation. The purpose of this study was to conduct an exploratory investigation into the difference of patellar kinematics of healthy knees during extension/flexion cycles in neutral, varus and valgus alignment.
Methods: The three-dimensional patellar kinematics of 10 lower extremities of whole body cadavers were examined during passive motion, in neutral position, and under valgus and varus stress.

This study aimed to compare the diagnostic value of ultrasonography to conventional radiography in detecting osteophytes and erosions in the midfoot joints in patients suffering from inflammatory and non-inflammatory joint disease. Patients with current foot radiographs were included and stratified in two cohorts: inflammatory and non-inflammatory joint disease. The ten midfoot joints of each foot were evaluated by conventional radiography assessing the presence of osteophytes and erosions and by ultrasonography determining the presence of osteophytes, erosions, and joint effusion.

Background: Assessing femoral version in orthopedic surgery is important for preoperative planning of total hip arthroplasty, especially for recognizing excessive anteversion or retroversion. The present study addressed the following: (1) Is the position of the lesser trochanter correlated to the femoral neck axis? (2) If so, may femoral version be assessed by means of plain pelvic radiographs?
Methods: Three-dimensional computed tomography scans of 60 patients undergoing minimally invasive cement-free total hip arthroplasty were retrospectively analyzed, particularly with regard to the relation between the femoral neck axis and the lesser trochanter, the femoral version, and the size of the projected lesser trochanter in different rotational positions. Based on linear regression, a biomathematical formula was developed to assess femoral anteversion on plain radiographs depending on the visible part of the lesser trochanter.
