Unlabelled: The human microbiome is a diverse consortium of microbial kingdoms that play pivotal roles in host health and diseases. We previously reported a dysbiotic bacteriome in chronic pancreatitis patients with diabetes (CPD) compared with patients with it's nondiabetic (CPND) phenotype. In this study, we extended our exploration to elucidate the intricate interactions between the mycobiome, bacteriome, and hosts' plasma metabolome with the disease phenotypes.

Objectives: Diabetes secondary to chronic pancreatitis (CP) presents clinical challenges due to lack of understanding on factor(s) triggering insulin secretory defects. Therefore, we aimed to delineate the molecular mechanism of β-cell dysfunction in CP.
Materials And Methods: Transcriptomic analysis was conducted to identify endocrine-specific receptor expression in mice and human CP on microarray.

Unlabelled: Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in de-novo acute myeloid leukemia patients receiving induction chemotherapy. Despite using posaconazole, a broad-spectrum antifungal, for IFI prophylaxis, the breakthrough IFI rate is high in the real-world setting. One of the reasons could be frequent suboptimal plasma posaconazole levels.

Cirrhosis transcends various progressive stages from compensation to decompensation driven by the severity of portal hypertension. The downstream effect of increasing portal hypertension severity leads to various pathophysiological pathways, which result in the cardinal complications of cirrhosis, including ascites, variceal hemorrhage, and hepatic encephalopathy. Additionally, the severity of portal hypertension is the central driver for further advanced complications of hyperdynamic circulation, hepatorenal syndrome, and cirrhotic cardiomyopathy.

It is known that alcoholic beverages alter the human gut microbiome. This study focused on the potential impact of non-ethanolic ingredients in whisky on the gut bacteriome. A pilot study was carried out on 15 whisky drinkers, 5 rice beer drinkers, and 9 non-drinkers to determine the effect of alcoholic beverages on the host microbiome and metabolome.

Background: Liver transplantation (LT) is associated with excellent survival in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). There is a lack of data assessing the healthcare utilization and outcomes of patients with APASL-defined ACLF undergoing living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). Our aim was to assess pre-LT healthcare utilization and post-LT outcomes in such patients.

Background And Aims: Lack of clinical validation and inter-observer variability are two limitations of endoscopic assessment and scoring of disease severity in patients with ulcerative colitis [UC]. We developed a deep learning [DL] model to improve, accelerate and automate UC detection, and predict the Mayo Endoscopic Subscore [MES] and the Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity [UCEIS].
Methods: A total of 134 prospective videos [1550 030 frames] were collected and those with poor quality were excluded.

Biliary strictures that remain unclassified after cross-sectional imaging and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography-based tissue sampling are defined as indeterminate biliary strictures (IDBS). A substantial proportion of biliary strictures fall into this category due to low sensitivity of brush cytology and intraductal biopsy. Over last few decades, several modalities have emerged for the evaluation of IDBS.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: biodegradable stents of various designs are reportedly used in pancreato-biliary conditions with promising results. Their major advantage is the avoidance of repeat endoscopic procedure for stent removal, thereby reducing overall costs and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) associated adverse events. The aim of the study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of a new biodegradable stent in patients with pancreato-biliary diseases.
