Background: Heart failure (HF) is a common health problem in South Asia, and its incidence and prevalence are projected to rise. Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has been shown to improve mortality, reduce hospitalizations, and improve symptoms in selected patients with HF. The South Asian Systolic Heart Failure Registry (SASHFR) was designed to be a large and comprehensive registry of Indian HF patients with the purpose of enhancing the quality of care and clinical outcomes of HF patients by promoting the adoption of evidence-based, guideline-recommended therapies, in particular CRT.

Background: There has been a push toward implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) in federally-funded hospitals under the current policies initiated by the Indian government, with a lack of evidence supporting their adoption. We analyzed data from the American College of Cardiology's PINNACLE (Practice Innovation and Clinical Excellence) India Quality Improvement Program (PIQIP) to evaluate the association between EHR use and quality of cardiovascular disease care in India.
Methods And Results: Between 2011-2016, we collected data on performance measures for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) among 17 participating practices in PIQIP.

The long-term effects of hypertension are well-known and India is especially vulnerable to its impact. Since SUA levels are strongly correlated with hypertension, evaluation of SUA levels in patients at risk for hypertension and in those suffering from hypertension should be done as early as possible in the course of the disease. Treatment of hyperuricemia in hypertension with appropriate therapy may thus be a valuable addition to its management.

Anemia is often associated with diabetes mellitus and is known to intensify the risk of developing diabetes-related microvascular and macrovascular complications. There is paucity in understanding of co-existence of these conditions, especially in Southeast Asian countries. Iron and/or erythropoietin deficiencies are the major causes of anemia in diabetes, and diabetic kidney disease plays a key role.

Pharmacovigilance is the art and science of detection, understanding and prevention of adverse drug reactions and not merely a critical analysis of prescriptions and errors. This field starts with reporting by clinicians of a suspected adverse drug reaction (ADR) to the pharmacologist followed by joint causality analysis and ends at the application of new information by a clinician for benefit of patients. There are a number of ways, which can be utilised for reporting adverse effects using pen and paper format to software applications for smart phones.

Instruction: Insulin is the oldest of the currently available treatment options in Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and is considered as the most effective glucose lowering agent. Despite this, decision on starting insulin therapy is often delayed in India as well as worldwide due to various barriers at both patient and physician levels. Appropriate insulin dosing and titration is also critical to the successful achievement of tight glycaemic control.

Cardiovascular diseases have surpassed infectious disorders to become the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in India. A national-level registry comprehensively documenting the current-day prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and disease burden among patients seeking care in the outpatient setting in India is currently non-existent. With a burgeoning urban population, the cardiovascular disease burden in India is set to skyrocket, with an estimated 18 million productive years of life lost by 2030.

Purpose: This study was to determine the efficacy of iliac crest reconstruction using bone cement in reducing pain and morbidity at the donor site in patients undergoing open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) with tricortical iliac crest autologous graft.
Materials And Methods: Thirty-three patients who underwent iliac crest reconstruction using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement (group A) and thirty patients who had no iliac crest reconstruction (group B) were enrolled in this study. All patients were evaluated for pain and functional disability related to graft harvesting using the pain and functional visual analogue scale (VAS) score during hospital stay and at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively.

While the incidence and prevalence of stroke is gradually decreasing in the western world, a parallel increase is seen in the developing world. It is a matter of special concern to us as approximately 20-30% of stroke occur in people younger than 45 years in India. Indians are prone to higher stroke risk because of urbanization, diabetes, cigarette smoking and high incidence of hypertension.
