Large bubble drives circular DNA melting.

We investigate the melting transition of non-supercoiled circular DNA of different lengths, employing Brownian dynamics simulations. In the absence of supercoiling, we find that melting of circular DNA is driven by a large bubble, which agrees with the previous predictions of circular DNA melting in the presence of supercoiling. By analyzing sector-wise changes in average base-pair distance, our study reveals that the melting behavior of circular DNA closely resembles that of linear DNA.

Fluorescent materials find numerous applications in light-based devices, but their utilization is severely affected by concentration caused quenching of fluorescence, the extreme form of which is the total loss of fluorescence in the solid state. Introduction of bulky substituents remains the most frequently applied fluorescence revival strategy, but requires multi-step synthetic modifications. We have demonstrated a simple one step supramolecular gel-based strategy to preserve the fluorescence in the solid state.

Extensive efforts have been dedicated towards designing new organic materials that display solid-state fluorescence and possess optical activity, thereby leading to the fabrication of materials emitting circularly polarized light. Existing organic materials usually suffer from two limitations, a low dissymmetry factor () and weak or no fluorescence in the solid state. Herein, we have demonstrated a naphthalene imide-based dyad system that remains fluorescent even in powder form and displays circularly polarized luminescence in its aggregated and solid state with significantly high values.

The development of an efficient, selective, and durable catalysis system for the electrocatalytic N reduction reaction (ENRR) is a promising strategy for the sustainable production of ammonia. The high-performance ENRR is limited by two major challenges: poor adsorption of N over the catalyst surface and abysmal N solubility in aqueous electrolytes. Herein, with the help of our combined density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental electrocatalysis study, we demonstrate that concurrently induced electron-deficient Lewis acid sites in an electrocatalyst and in an electrolyte medium can significantly boost the ENRR performance.

In the human brain, a multiple-demand (MD) network plays a key role in cognitive control, with core components in lateral frontal, dorsomedial frontal and lateral parietal cortex, and multivariate activity patterns that discriminate the contents of many cognitive activities. In prefrontal cortex of the behaving monkey, different cognitive operations are associated with very different patterns of neural activity, while details of a particular stimulus are encoded as small variations on these basic patterns (Sigala et al, 2008). Here, using the advanced fMRI methods of the Human Connectome Project and their 360-region cortical parcellation, we searched for a similar result in MD activation patterns.

A μ-oxo diiron complex, featuring the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide-based thiazoline-derived redox-active ligand, HL (HL = N,N-bis(4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide), was synthesized and thoroughly characterized. showed electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction activity in the presence of different organic acids of varying p values in dimethylformamide. Through electrochemical analysis, we found that is a precatalyst that undergoes concerted two-electron reduction to generate an active catalyst.

Magnetization dynamics in quasiperiodic magnonic crystals.

Quasiperiodic magnonic crystals, in contrast to their periodic counterparts, lack strict periodicity which gives rise to complex and localised spin wave spectra characterized by numerous band gaps and fractal features. Despite their intrinsic structural complexity, quasiperiodic nature of these magnonic crystals enables better tunability of spin wave spectra over their periodic counterparts and therefore holds promise for the applications in reprogrammable magnonic devices. In this article, we provide an overview of magnetization reversal and precessional magnetization dynamics studied so far in various quasiperiodic magnonic crystals, illustrating how their quasiperiodic nature gives rise to tailored band structure, enabling unparalleled control over spin waves.

This article investigates the relaxation dynamics of the ionized 2a1 state of a water molecule within a water dimer. The study was motivated by findings from two previous pieces of research that focused on the relaxation behaviors of the inner-valence ionized water dimer. A majority of short peptide (≤7 amino acids) hydrogels are primarily assembled via cross β-structure formation. In contrast to the natural trend, herein, we report the formation of supramolecular hydrogel from the ultrashort hybrid folded peptide composed of canonical α-amino acid and noncanonical γ-amino acid, Fmoc-γPhe-Phe-OH. The designed hybrid peptide hydrogel is composed of entangled fibers, has viscoelastic properties, exhibits proteolytic stability, and exhibits cytocompatibility with L929 fibroblast cells.
