Objective: The all-comer ClotTriever Outcomes registry assessed indicators of thrombus chronicity in patients with acute, subacute, and chronic lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The effectiveness of the ClotTriever System (Inari Medical, Irvine, CA) by chronicity subgroup was also assessed and reported here in this subanalysis.
Methods: All-comer patients with lower extremity DVT were enrolled, with no limitation based on the patients' symptom duration.

Recent studies evaluated the impact of i-scan in improving the adenoma detection rate (ADR) compared to high-definition (HD) colonoscopy. We aimed to systematically review and analyze the impact of this technique. A thorough search of the following databases was undertaken: PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane and Web of Science.

Background Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is often present in coronary artery disease patients and confers a high risk of complications following percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). The impact of two commonly associated comorbid conditions, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS, Pickwickian syndrome) in OSA patients undergoing PCI has never been studied. Methods The National Inpatient Sample (NIS; 2007-2014) was queried using the International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification 9 (ICD-9-CM) codes to compare baseline characteristics, comorbidities, and outcomes in adults undergoing PCI with OSA, COPD-overlap syndrome, and OSA+OHS.

Purpose: Computer navigation in total hip arthroplasty (THA) offers potential for more accurate placement of acetabular components, avoiding impingement, edge loading, and dislocation, all of which can necessitate revision THA (rTHA). Therefore, the use of computer navigation may be particularly beneficial in patients undergoing rTHA. The purpose of this study was to determine if the use of computer-assisted hip navigation reduces the rate of dislocation in patients undergoing rTHA.

Extramedullary hematopoiesis (EH) refers to hemopoiesis that occurs outside of the bone marrow and can be physiologic or pathologic in nature. Common sites of EH include the liver, spleen, and paravertebral soft tissues. Less commonly, EH can occur in the kidneys, pleura, paranasal sinuses, and various other organs.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a diagnosis on the broader spectrum of venous thromboembolic (VTE) disease. The diagnostic key for clinicians is detecting which patients have a "high risk" of complications or mortality and who are in the "low-risk" population. The Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (PESI) and HESTIA scores are validated risk stratification tools to determine if patients diagnosed with PE can be successfully managed in the outpatient versus inpatient setting.

Symptomatic pancreaticojejunal anastomotic stricture is a rare complication following pancreaticoduodenectomy. Literature for the management of pancreaticojejunal anastomotic strictures is limited. Revision of pancreaticojejunostomy anastomosis, endoscopic dilation, stenting of pancreaticojejunal stricture, and modified Puestow procedure have all been described with variable outcomes.

Background: For geriatric hip fractures, the current American College of Surgeons guideline recommends surgery within 48 hours. We sought to identify which factors delayed a patient's progression to definitive surgery at 2 associated level II trauma centers using chart abstraction.
Methods: We reviewed all geriatric patients who underwent a surgical procedure for a hip fracture.

Background: Direct attachment of tendons to metallic implants is important in orthopedics. Tissue integration depends on scaffold microstructure and composition. This study evaluated the effect of pore size of titanium on the viability and function of fibroblasts and tenocytes in a dynamic bioreactor.

Amyloidosis encompasses several diseases associated with deposition of low-molecular-weight proteins in an abnormal configuration. In light-chain amyloidosis (AL), monoclonal free lambda () or kappa () light chains are the amyloid proteins involved and can deposit in almost any organ. Symptoms vary depending on presence and extent of organ involvement, and thus, clinical presentation varies.

Objective: Racial disparities in health care have come to the forefront. We hypothesized that Black race was associated with worse preoperative risk, lower repair rates, and worse outcomes among patients who underwent mitral valve surgery.
Methods: All patients who underwent mitral valve repair or replacement with or without coronary artery bypass grafting from 2011 to 2020 in a statewide collaborative database were stratified into 3 racial groups, White, Black, and other.

Background: Currently, there is no treatment for retinal degenerative diseases (RDD) such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP). Stem cell-based therapies could provide promising opportunities to repair the damaged retina and restore vision. Thus far, primarily adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been investigated in preclinical and clinical studies, and the results have not been convincing.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a growing health concern, affecting nearly one billion people worldwide; increasingly recognized as an independent cardiovascular risk factor associated with incident obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, arrhythmias, stroke, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea could be underestimated in the previous studies, leading to only modest predictions of cardiovascular outcomes. Using more physiologic data will increase sensitivity for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea.

Background: Viral infections are pervasive and leading causes of myocarditis. Immune-suppression after chemotherapy increases opportunistic infections, but the incidence of virus-induced myocarditis is unknown.
Objective: An unbiased, blinded screening for RNA viruses was performed after chemotherapy with correlation to cardiac function.

Introduction: Uncontrolled hypertension can result in severe clinical conditions such as stroke, chronic kidney disease and congestive heart failure, especially in African American populations. To the knowledge of the authors, the effect of time sequence on blood pressure (BP) using an Automated Office Blood Pressure (AOBP) device has not been documented in an African American cohort. The objective of this study was to investigate the possible influence of time sequence of measurement (pre- and post-physician visit) on BP readings in an African American cohort, in the presence or absence of a Medical Assistant (MA) via AOBP monitoring.

Purpose: Arousals may contribute to the pathogenesis of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and central sleep apnea (CSA). We aimed to determine the effect of the nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic zolpidem on the frequency of respiratory-related arousals and central apnea in patients with moderate-to-severe SDB. We hypothesized that zolpidem decreases the severity of SDB by decreasing the frequency of respiratory-related arousals.

Background: In 2019, the Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative Quality Initiative (MARCQI) recommended an evidence-based opioid pain pathway to participating physicians and hospitals for patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty (TJA). The purpose of this study was to determine if the education could influence and have lasting effects on the prescribing patterns for TJA patients.
Methods: Using the MARCQI database, the number of oral morphine equivalents (OMEs) prescribed at discharge were collected from January 2018 through December 2019 for all primary arthroplasty procedures.

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a well-known, serious complication that many patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes face due to either a relative or absolute insulin deficiency. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors have gained increased popularity due to their diabetic, cardiovascular, and renal benefits. An associated complication of SGLT2 inhibitors is euglycemic DKA.
