Department of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, Hurley Medical Center, 1 Hurley Plaza, Flint, MI, 48503, United States.

Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) impact morbidity and mortality in burn patients, exacerbated by extensive fluid resuscitation required for more than 20% of total body surface area burns. We report a case of a 28-year-old male with severe burns and a TBSA of 49% who presented after a fire incident. The trauma team managed the patient's fluid resuscitation, followed by early burn debridement.

Background: Acute mortality for high-risk, or massive, pulmonary embolism (PE) is almost 30% even when treated using advanced therapies. This analysis assessed the safety and effectiveness of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for high-risk PE.

Methods: The prospective, multicenter FlowTriever All-comer Registry for Patient Safety and Hemodynamics (FLASH) study is designed to evaluate real-world PE patient outcomes after MT with the FlowTriever System (Inari Medical).

Acute mitral regurgitation typically presents with dyspnea, chest pain, and hemodynamic instability. It is an uncommon cause of hemoptysis. We present a case of a patient presenting with dyspnea and hemoptysis without hemodynamic instability along with right-sided infiltrate on chest radiography a few days after an acute inferolateral STEMI who was found to have posterior papillary muscle rupture resulting in acute mitral regurgitation.

A novel technique for subscapularis repair in total shoulder arthroplasty.

JSES Rev Rep Tech

May 2023

Greater Michigan Orthopedics, Grand Blanc, MI, USA.

Anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty, when used for treatment of primary glenohumeral arthritis, is historically very successful. We propose a novel technique for subscapularis repair during closure of a deltopectoral approach to the shoulder with subscapularis peel. Our technique allows for early motion following surgery and also provides for improved subscapularis repair integrity and resilience during postoperative rehabilitation.

Purpose: Mechanical thrombectomy for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is being increasingly utilized to reduce symptoms and prevent postthrombotic syndrome (PTS), but more data on clinical outcomes are needed. Mechanical thrombectomy was studied in the ClotTriever Outcomes (CLOUT) registry with 6-month full analysis outcomes reported herein.
