Pediatric obesity is a common comorbid condition that may complicate pediatric surgeries, such as appendectomy. Prior research on the consequences of obesity on pediatric appendectomy outcomes have been limited by small-sample sizes and pooled analyses that do not distinguish the effects of surgical approach. Associations between surgical approach, pediatric obesity, and postoperative appendectomy outcomes thus remain unclear.

With an aging population and increasing use of antiplatelets and anticoagulants, severe epistaxis is likely to increase in frequency significantly over the next two decades. Background: Trials of the efficacy and safety of endovascular thrombectomy in patients with large ischemic strokes have been carried out in limited populations.
Methods: We performed a prospective, randomized, open-label, adaptive, international trial involving patients with stroke due to occlusion of the internal carotid artery or the first segment of the middle cerebral artery to assess endovascular thrombectomy within 24 hours after onset. Patients had a large ischemic-core volume, defined as an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score of 3 to 5 (range, 0 to 10, with lower scores indicating larger infarction) or a core volume of at least 50 ml on computed tomography perfusion or diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging.

Purpose: We sought to determine if census tract-level (ie, neighborhood) COVID-19 death rates in Milwaukee County correlated with the census tract-level condition prevalence rates (CPRs) for individual COVID-19 mortality risk.
Methods: This study used Milwaukee County-reported COVID-19 death rates per 100,000 lives for the 296 census tracts within the county to perform a linear regression with individual COVID-19 mortality risk CPR, mean age, racial composition of census tract (by percentage of non-White residents), and poverty (by percentage within census tract), followed by multiple regression with all 7 CPRs as well as the 7 CPRs combined with the additional demographic variables. CPR estimates were accessed from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 500 Cities Project.

We assessed patient-level data in a large US health care system from 2016 to 2020 for racial disparities in MT utilization and eligibility. Objective: Perfusion imaging identifies anterior circulation stroke patients who respond favorably to endovascular thrombectomy (ET), but its role in basilar artery occlusion (BAO) is unknown. We hypothesized that BAO patients with limited regions of severe hypoperfusion (time to reach maximum concentration in seconds [Tmax] > 10) would have a favorable response to ET compared to patients with more extensive regions involved.
Methods: We performed a multicenter retrospective cohort study of BAO patients with perfusion imaging prior to ET.

Background And Purpose: Asymmetries in the circle of Willis have been associated with several conditions, including migraines and stroke, but they may also be age-dependent. This study examined the impact of age and age-dependent changes in cerebral perfusion on circle of Willis anatomy in healthy children and adults.
Materials And Methods: We performed an observational, cross-sectional study of bright and black-blood imaging of the proximal cerebral vasculature using TOF-MRA and T2 sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts by using different flip angle evolution (T2-SPACE) imaging at the level of the circle of Willis in 23 healthy children and 43 healthy adults (4-74 years of age).

Physician and pharmacist impressions of the service are also described.
Summary: mRDT have proven clinical benefit in the treatment of bacteremia.

Background And Purpose: Delayed evaluation of stroke may contribute to COVID-19 pandemic-related morbidity and mortality. This study evaluated patient characteristics, process measures and outcomes associated with the decline in stroke presentation during the early pandemic.
Methods: Volumes of stroke presentations, intravenous thrombolytic administrations, and mechanical thrombectomies from 52 hospitals from January 1-June 30, 2020 were analyzed with piecewise linear regression and linear spline models.
Several antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can cause acute interstitial nephritis. This is not dose-dependent, and recurrence can occur with a second exposure of the same drug. Stopping the culprit is critical for successful management.

Evaluation of this set of algorithms in a clinical setting is lacking.
