Acute myeloid leukemia with NUP98::RARG rearrangement: a case report and review of the relevant literature.

We herein report a rare case of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with t(11;12)(p15;q13) and NUP98::RARG, which seems to be involved in the development of AML. The morphological features were similar to those of classic acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), but unlike classic APL, this leukemia was resistant to treatment with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA). We decided to use standard chemotherapy for AML with monitoring of minimal residual disease (MRD) by qualitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis for NUP98::RARG mRNA.

Prospective investigation of calcium score in optical coherence tomography-guided revascularization to identify lesions with low risk for stent under expansion: the CORAL study.

The optical coherence tomography (OCT)-based calcium scoring system was developed to guide optimal lesion preparation strategies for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of calcified lesions. However, the score was derived retrospectively, and a prospective investigation is lacking. The CORAL (UMIN000053266) study was a single-arm, prospective, multicenter study that included patients with calcified lesions with OCT-calcium score of 1-2 to investigate whether these lesions could be optimally treated with a balloon-only preparation strategy using a non-compliant/scoring/cutting balloon.

Castleman disease (CD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disease. Hyaline-vascular type unicentric CD has a good prognosis if completely resected during surgery. However, follicular dendritic cell proliferative lesions have the potential for recurrence and metastasis.

The X-linked human glutamate receptor subunit 3 (GRIA3) gene (MIM *305915, Xq25) encodes ionotropic α amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionate (AMPA)-type glutamate receptor subunit 3, which mediates postsynaptic neurotransmission. Variants in this gene can cause a variety of neurological disorders, primarily reported in male patients. Here, we report a female patient with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy who carries the novel de novo GRIA3 variant NM_007325.

Interventional strategies in infected necrotizing pancreatitis: Indications, timing, and outcomes.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common gastrointestinal diseases and remains a life-threatening condition. Although AP resolves to restitutio ad integrum in approximately 80% of patients, it can progress to necrotizing pancreatitis (NP). NP is associated with superinfection in a third of patients, leading to an increase in mortality rate of up to 40%.

Background: Life-threatening cytomegalovirus infection (CMVI) has been reported even in patients with malignant lymphoma (ML) who have not received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (w/o HSCT) but had been treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. However, the CMVI incidence and risk factors (RFs) in patients with ML w/o HSCT have not been fully elucidated. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical aspects, including incidence and RFs, of CMVI in patients with ML w/o HSCT.

Imaging findings of ovarian metastasis of primary renal cell carcinoma: A case report and literature review.

A 62-year-old woman presented with a tumor in the right kidney. A right partial nephrectomy was performed, and the tumor was diagnosed as clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) on histopathological examination. A right ovarian tumor was detected on follow-up computed tomography (CT) 5 years after partial nephrectomy and pathology proved RCC metastasis.

A case of primary histiocytic sarcoma arising from a neck lymph node.

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is an aggressive and rare hematological malignancy. Its treatment has not been established, and most patients die within 2 years of diagnosis. Resection can provide a favorable prognosis for solitary lesions.

Survey to detect tick-borne encephalitis virus from human-feeding ticks in Hokkaido, Japan.

A tick infestation is one of the most common arthropod-related skin diseases in Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan. Ticks also act as an infectious disease vector for humans. Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), a highly mortal central nervous system infection caused by TBE virus (TBEV), has sporadically occurred there recently.

The impact of neoadjuvant systemic therapy on breast conservation rates in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer: Surgical results from a phase II randomized controlled trial.

Background: Neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST) induces tumor shrinkage and boosts the chance of breast-conserving thearpy (BCT) in patients with breast cancer. However, only a few trials have evaluated the effect of NST in conversion from BCT ineligibility to BCT eligibility in HER2-positive breast cancer.

Methods: We conducted the surgical sub-study of a phase II randomized trial, which compared standard neoadjuvant treatment or an experimental treatment modified according to the interim Ki-67 evaluation in women with stage II or III HER2-positive breast cancer.

The efficacy of the submucosal injection of lidocaine during endoscopic submucosal dissection for colorectal neoplasms: a multicenter randomized controlled study.

Background: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is currently a common procedure although it requires a long procedural time. We conducted a prospective study to determine the efficacy and safety of lidocaine injection for shortening the procedural time and relieving bowel peristalsis during ESD.

Background: The diagnosis and treatment of partial-thickness rotator cuff tears remain controversial, and only a few studies have carried out clinical evaluation and comparison based on different types of tears. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of arthroscopic cuff repairs using the suture bridge technique in patients with articular partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (APRCTs) vs. those with bursal partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (BPRCTs).

Oncological outcomes of a multicenter cohort treated with axitinib for metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the real-world use of axitinib and to develop a prognostic model for stratifying patients who could derive long-term benefit from axitinib. This was a retrospective, descriptive study evaluating the efficacy of axitinib in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma that had been treated with 1 or 2 systemic antiangiogenic therapy regimens at 1 of 36 hospitals belonging to the Japan Urologic Oncology Group between January 2012 and February 2019. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS).

A case of congenital herpes simplex virus infection diagnosed at 8 months of age.

We present the case of an 8-month-old boy with the repeated recurrence of vesicles from the time of birth and who subsequently manifested psychomotor developmental delay. We retrospectively diagnosed the patient with congenital herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. Computed tomography showed multiple calcifications in the periventricular white matter and thalami.

Treatment-free remission after first-line dasatinib discontinuation in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (first-line DADI trial): a single-arm, multicentre, phase 2 trial.

Background: A previous dasatinib discontinuation (DADI) trial showed that 31 (49%) of 63 patients with chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukaemia who were treated with second-line or subsequent dasatinib could discontinue the drug safely. However, the safety and efficacy of discontinuing first-line dasatinib remains unclear. In this trial (the first-line DADI trial) we aimed to assess molecular relapse-free survival at 6 months after discontinuation of dasatinib in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia who had been treated with first-line dasatinib and had maintained deep molecular response for at least 1 year.

Complete healing of spontaneous coronary artery dissection extending from the left main trunk to the left anterior descending and the left circumflex artery.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is defined as a spontaneous separation of the coronary artery wall that is not iatrogenic or related to trauma and usually affects young women. We describe a 65-year-old woman who presented with SCAD extending from the left main trunk involving the left anterior descending artery and the left circumflex artery, and coronary artery bypass graft surgery was performed to treat the dissection. Coronary angiography performed 3 months later, showed complete angiographic healing.
