is a leading cause of bacteria-associated mortality worldwide. This is largely because infection sites are often difficult to localize and the bacteria forms biofilms which are not effectively cleared using classical antibiotics. Therefore, there is a need for new tools to both image and treat infections.

Background: As populations age in the Western world, interventions aiming for 'aging in place', such as reablement, have gained prominence. Reablement programs have focused on enabling older people to maintain independence in their home environment. However, while a growing body of research points to the considerable benefits of engaging in outdoor environments, reablement rarely addresses outdoor activities.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) to see how many fit the criteria for psoriatic arthritis (PsA) 18 years after the disease began.
  • Of the 510 initially enrolled patients, only 434 participated in follow-up, with 9.4% meeting the CASPAR criteria for PsA, indicating CASPAR may be more effective in identifying these patients than the ILAR criteria.
  • Key predictors for developing PsA included specific joint involvement at disease onset and the presence of psoriasis, nail abnormalities, or dactylitis, with dactylitis being the strongest predictor.

A core feature of eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, is an overestimation of body size. A key question is whether this overestimation arises solely from body image concerns typical in eating disorders, or if there is an additional perceptual disturbance. To address this question, we applied a two-component model of body size estimation that has been thoroughly replicated in the body image literature concerning healthy individuals.

DNA methylation classifier to diagnose pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma metastases from different anatomical sites.

Clin Epigenetics

November 2024

Institute of Pathology, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Corporate Member of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Charitéplatz 1, 10117, Berlin, Germany.

Background: We have recently constructed a DNA methylation classifier that can discriminate between pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PAAD) liver metastasis and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) with high accuracy (PAAD-iCCA-Classifier). PAAD is one of the leading causes of cancer of unknown primary and diagnosis is based on exclusion of other malignancies. Therefore, our focus was to investigate whether the PAAD-iCCA-Classifier can be used to diagnose PAAD metastases from other sites.

Background: Perceived stress from schoolwork and perceived teacher care are shown to influence adolescents' life satisfaction. However, there is a need to further explore how levels of perceived school stress affect life satisfaction of Norwegian adolescents across gender and school levels using nationwide data, and whether this association is moderated by perceived teacher care. Hence, this paper sought to: (1) describe perceived school stress, perceived teacher care and satisfaction with life in Norwegian adolescents stratified by gender and school level, (2) examine the association between perceived school stress and satisfaction with life by testing perceived teacher care as a possible moderator and (3) explore the association between perceived teacher care and adolescents' satisfaction with life.

Article Synopsis
  • The lumpfish is being researched for its potential in aquaculture, especially for controlling sea lice in salmon farms, by examining its immune response through Melanomacrophage centers (MMCs) in the liver.
  • Liver samples from both hatchery-produced and wild lumpfish were analyzed using various staining techniques to assess MMC density and health indicators, revealing significant lipid accumulation in hatchery males.
  • The study found that while hatchery-produced males had more monocytes/macrophages and necrotic areas, MMC density was similar across fish origins and genders, suggesting MMCs may not be effective health markers in lumpfish.

Background: A robust association between physical activity (PA) and satisfaction with life (SWL) has been established, wherein self-efficacy has been identified as a mediator across different populations. However, there is a need to further examine the relationship between PA and SWL and whether self-efficacy act a as mediator within different levels of PA among Norwegian adolescents. Thus, the objective of this study was to explore the relationship between levels of PA and SWL by testing for self-efficacy as a possible mediator.

This body image study tests the viability of transferring a complex psychophysical paradigm from a controlled in-person laboratory task to an online environment. 172 female participants made online judgements about their own body size when viewing images of computer-generated female bodies presented in either in front-view or at 45-degrees in a method of adjustment (MOA) paradigm. The results of these judgements were then compared to the results of two laboratory-based studies (with 96 and 40 female participants respectively) to establish three key findings.
