Objectives: Our study aimed to determine the publication rates of podium presentations from the 2017 and 2018 Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) Annual Meetings; and to examine rates and predictors of oral presentations that resulted in publication.

Methods: We reviewed podium presentations given at the 2017 and 2018 SGO Annual Meetings. Abstracts were evaluated for publication from January 1, 2017 to March 30, 2020 and January 1, 2018 to June 30, 2021, respectively, to allow for a 3 year period of publication.

Despite improvements in definitive therapy, many patients with gastrointestinal malignancies experience local recurrences or have unresectable disease making subsequent management often challenging and morbid. Although higher doses of radiation may offer improved local control, the ability for dose escalation of external beam radiation therapy is often limited by adjacent radiosensitive structures. Intraoperative radiation therapy allows for additional radiotherapy to be delivered directly to the tumor or areas at highest risk for local recurrence while minimizing toxicity to adjacent structures, offering potentially improved outcomes for patients with unresectable disease or those with a high risk of local recurrence.

Tissue resident memory (Trm) CD8 T cells infiltrating tumors represent an enriched population of tumor antigen-specific T cells, and their presence is associated with improved outcomes in patients. Using genetically engineered mouse pancreatic tumor models we demonstrate that tumor implantation generates a Trm niche that is dependent on direct antigen presentation by cancer cells. However, we observe that initial CCR7-mediated localization of CD8 T cells to tumor draining lymph nodes is required to subsequently generate CD103 CD8 T cells in tumors.

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a promising behavioral intervention for improving parent and adult caregiver (PAC) health behavior for obesity and cancer prevention. This study explored the preliminary effects of MI from a registered dietitian (RDMI) within an obesity prevention intervention to promote PAC behavior change and positive proxy effects on children and the home environment. The combination of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) plus immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) must be explored to treat advanced primary liver tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Limited retrospective reviews and case reports/series suggest this combination can be effective and safe in both cancer types. With ICIs moving into the first line (IMbrave 150, HIMALAYA, and TOPAZ-1) to manage these cancers, identifying a suitable population for this approach is challenging.

Cancer therapies trigger diverse cellular responses, ranging from apoptotic death to acquisition of persistent therapy-refractory states such as senescence. Tipping the balance toward apoptosis could improve treatment outcomes regardless of therapeutic agent or malignancy. We find that inhibition of the mitochondrial protein BCL-xL increases the propensity of cancer cells to die after treatment with a broad array of oncology drugs, including mitotic inhibitors and chemotherapy.
