Neutropenia in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a problem that often needs to be addressed. Side effects of basic antirheumatic treatment, infections or substrate deficiencies are common causes; however, T‑cell large granular lymphocytic (T-LGL) leukemia, a mature T‑cell neoplasm, can also lead to autoimmune cytopenia. The T‑LGL leukemia can be associated not only with RA but also with other autoimmune diseases or neoplasms.

The surface topography and chemistry of titanium-aluminum-vanadium (Ti6Al4V) implants play critical roles in the osteoblast differentiation of human bone marrow stromal cells (MSCs) and the creation of an osteogenic microenvironment. To assess the effects of a microscale/nanoscale (MN) topography, this study compared the effects of MN-modified, anodized, and smooth Ti6Al4V surfaces on MSC response, and for the first time, directly contrasted MN-induced osteoblast differentiation with culture on tissue culture polystyrene (TCPS) in osteogenic medium (OM). Surface characterization revealed distinct differences in microroughness, composition, and topography among the Ti6Al4V substrates.

We aimed to explore the therapeutic efficacy of miR-7704-modified extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUCMSCs) for osteoarthritis (OA) treatment. In vitro experiments demonstrated the successful transfection of miR-7704 into HUCMSCs and the isolation of EVs from these cells. Modern treat-to-target management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) involves titration of drug therapy to achieve remission, requiring close monitoring of disease activity through frequent clinical assessments. Accelerometry offers a novel method for continuous remote monitoring of RA activity by capturing fluctuations in mobility, sedentary behaviours, physical activity and sleep patterns over prolonged periods without the expense, inconvenience and environmental impact of extra hospital visits. We aimed to (a) assess the feasibility, usability and acceptability of wearable devices in patients with active RA; (b) investigate the multivariate relationships within the dataset; and (c) explore the robustness of accelerometry outcomes to downsampling to facilitate future prolonged monitoring.

Alkaptonuria (AKU) is an extremely rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder caused by deficiency of homogentisic acid oxidase and resulting in accumulation of homogentisic acid in collagenous structures. It is characterized by a triad of homogentisic aciduria, bluish-black discoloration of connective tissues (ochronosis) and arthropathy of large weight bearing joints. We report on a middle-aged female patient with bilateral severe ochronotic arthritis of both hips and shoulder joints requiring total joint replacements as staged procedures which were done without complications offering a complete pain relief and a satisfactory clinical and functional outcome.

Methods: On day 84 after induction, during the chronic phase of arthritis, cecal samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing, and plasma and cecal digesta were evaluated using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Differences in microbial composition between 10 control (Ctrl) and 29 CIA mice or between the mild and severe subgroups based on arthritis scores were identified.
