Hereditary angioedema in children: Review and practical perspective for clinical management.

Background: Hereditary angioedema (HAE) in children has specific features and requires multidisciplinary management.

Methods: We performed a literature search and underwent in-depth discussions to provide practical tools for physicians.

Results: HAE is a rare, life-threatening genetic disorder.

Use of resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) in a multidisciplinary approach for management of traumatic haemorrhagic shock: 10-year retrospective experience from a French level 1 trauma centre.

Background: The present study investigated an institutional multidisciplinary strategy for managing traumatic haemorrhagic shock by integrating the placement of REBOA (resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta) by anaesthesiologist-intensivists.

Methods: All severe trauma patients who received percutaneous REBOA placement between January 2013 and December 2022 in our level 1 trauma centre were retrospectively analysed. The data collected included the clinical context, indications and location of REBOA, durations of aortic occlusion (AO), choice of haemostatic procedures and surgical teams, and specific complications.

Feasibility and Safety of Post-Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Coronary Revascularization Guided by Stress Cardiac Imaging.

Systematic revascularization of asymptomatic coronary artery stenosis before transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of functional evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD) followed by selective ischemia-guided percutaneous coronary revascularization following TAVR. This prospective, bi-centric, single-arm, open-label trial included all patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) eligible for TAVR and with significant CAD defined as ≥1 coronary stenosis ≥ 70%.

Compliance with antibiotic therapy guidelines in french paediatric intensive care units: a multicentre observational study.

Background: Bacterial infections (BIs) are widespread in ICUs. The aims of this study were to assess compliance with antibiotic recommendations and factors associated with non-compliance.

Autoimmune cytopenia (AIC) in children may be associated with positive antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and may progress to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We evaluated the risk of progression to SLE of childhood-onset ANA-associated AIC. In the French national prospective OBS'CEREVANCE cohort, the long-term outcome of children with ANA-associated AIC (ANA titer ≥1/160) and a subgroup of children who developed SLE were described.

Introduction: High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) is commonly used as first step respiratory support in infants with moderate-to-severe acute viral bronchiolitis (AVB). This device, however, fails to effectively manage respiratory distress in about a third of patients, and data are limited on determinants of patient response. The respiratory rate-oxygenation (ROX) index is a relevant tool to predict the risk for HFNC failure in adult patients with lower respiratory tract infections.

Ex Vivo Comparison of the Elastic Properties of Vascular Substitutes Used for Pulmonary Artery Replacement.

Introduction: Study aims were to evaluate the elastic properties of vascular substitutes frequently used for pulmonary artery (PA) replacement, and then to compare their compliance and stiffness indexes to those of human PA.

Methods: A bench-test pulsatile flow experiment was developed to perfuse human cadaveric vascular substitutes (PA, thoracic aorta, human pericardial conduit), bovine pericardial conduit, and prosthetic vascular substitutes (polytetrafluorethylene and Dacron grafts) at a flow and low pulsed pressure mimicking pulmonary circulation. Intraluminal pressure was measured.

Background: The aim of this single-center retrospective cohort study was to assess the impact of arterial reconstruction technique on lung perfusion. The second objective was to ascertain the functional validity of arterial sleeve lobectomy.

Method: Between January 2001 and December 2020, a total of 81 patients underwent lobectomy with pulmonary artery (PA) reconstruction for lung cancer at the University Hospital of Montpellier.

Pediatric chronic immune thrombocytopenia (cITP) is a heterogeneous condition in terms of bleeding severity, second-line treatment use, association with clinical and/or biological immunopathological manifestations (IMs), and progression to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). No risk factors for these outcomes are known. Specifically, whether age at ITP diagnosis, sex, or IMs impact cITP outcomes is unknown.

Isavuconazole is a triazole antifungal agent recently recommended as first-line therapy for invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. With the COVID-19 pandemic, cases of COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA) have been described with a prevalence ranging from 5 to 30%. We developed and validated a population pharmacokinetic (PKpop) model of isavuconazole plasma concentrations in intensive care unit patients with CAPA.

VATS versus Open Lobectomy following Induction Therapy for Stage III NSCLC: A Propensity Score-Matched Analysis.

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the perioperative and oncologic outcomes of thoracoscopic lobectomy for advanced stage III NSCLC. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 205 consecutive patients who underwent VATS or open lobectomy for clinical stage III lung cancer between January 2013 and December 2020. The perioperative and oncologic outcomes of the two approaches were compared.

Introduction: The use of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy has become a mainstay of modern thoracic surgery practice and the technique of choice for resection of early-stage lung cancers. However, the benefits of VATS following induction therapy are yet to be clarified. This study aims to assess whether VATS lobectomy achieves similar perioperative and oncologic outcomes compared to thoracotomy for nonsmall cell lung cancer after induction therapy.

Background: Venous malformations (VMs) are the most common vascular anomalies and have been associated with somatic variants in TEK. Current treatment of VM joint component might be challenging due to the size or location of some lesions or ineffective with recurrence of malformed veins. Targeted molecular therapies after identification of genetic defects might be an alternative.
