Background: Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is an effective form of treatment in patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) who have concomitant severe obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). However, there is a paucity of evidence on the efficacy of NIV in patients with OHS without severe OSA. We performed a multicentre randomised clinical trial to determine the comparative efficacy of NIV versus lifestyle modification (control group) using daytime arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2) as the main outcome measure.

Introduction: The aim of this systematic review was to assess the prevalence of adverse effects associated with lingual and buccal fixed orthodontic techniques.

Methods: Two authors searched the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and LILACS databases up to October 2014. Agreement between the authors was quantified by the Cohen kappa statistic.

Incidence and survival rates for malignant salivary gland tumors.

The aims of this study were to determine the incidence of malignant salivary gland tumors (MSGTs) in a specific in Spanish Mediterranean population, evaluate oncological outcomes, and identify prognostic factors for survival. Overall survival and disease-free survival rates were calculated for 23 patients with MSGTs who were treated in our department during 2004-2012. In the recruitment population of the reference hospital, annual incidence per 100,000 inhabitants was estimated, with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Tailoring the dosing schedule of nab-paclitaxel in metastatic breast cancer according to patient and disease characteristics: Recommendations from a panel of experts.

The choice of chemotherapy for patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) depends on disease- and patient-related factors, but there is little guidance on dosing modifications for patients unable to receive the licensed dose. Nab-paclitaxel is a solvent-free form of paclitaxel that uses albumin as a drug carrier and exploits endogenous albumin transport pathways to achieve enhanced drug targeting and tumour penetration with reduced toxicity. It is approved for use at a dose of 260 mg/m(2) every three weeks in adults who have failed first-line treatment for MBC and for whom standard anthracycline-based therapy is not indicated.

SOLTI NeoPARP: a phase II randomized study of two schedules of iniparib plus paclitaxel versus paclitaxel alone as neoadjuvant therapy in patients with triple-negative breast cancer.

Iniparib is an investigational agent with antitumor activity of controversial mechanism of action. Two previous trials in advanced triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in combination with gemcitabine and carboplatin showed some evidence of efficacy that was not confirmed. This phase II randomized neoadjuvant study was designed to explore its activity and tolerability with weekly paclitaxel (PTX) as neoadjuvant treatment in TNBC patients.

The aim of this article was to review the literature on supernumerary teeth, analyzing their prevalence, etiology, diagnosis, treatment and possible complications. An electronic search was made in the Pubmed-Medline database up to January 2014 using the key search terms "multiple supernumerary teeth" (n=279), "prevalence supernumerary teeth" (n=361), and "supernumerary teeth" (n=2412). In addition to the articles initially identified, others were included in the review proceeding from a manual search and from any references considered of relevance.

A Classification Proposal for Peri-Implant Mucositis and Peri-Implantitis: A Critical Update.

Definitions of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis vary in the literature, and no clear criteria have been established for the diagnosis and treatment of such disorders. This study proposes a classification for peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis based on the severity of the disease, using a combination of peri-implant clinical and radiological parameters to classify severity into several stages (Stage 0A and 0B = peri-implant mucositis, and Stage I to IV = periimplantitis). Following a review of the literature on the subject and justification of the proposed peri-implant disease classification, the latter aims to facilitate professional communication and data collection for research and community health studies.

Mid-dermal elastolysis: report of a case and literature review.

Mid-dermal elastolysis (MDE) is an uncommon and probably underdiagnosed disorder of the elastic tissue. Clinical suspicion and histopathological confirmation are essential for the diagnosis. We report the case of a young woman who presented with this disorder after an inflammatory process during pregnancy and we review the main characteristics of this rare entity.

We recently demonstrated an overall decrease of all αβ and specially γδ T cell subsets in patients with sepsis compared with healthy subjects. IL-7 is a crucial factor for development of γδ T cells and survival in sepsis but its association with sepsis severity, evolution of organ failure and death still has not been investigated. Sera from 78 patients who met criteria for sepsis were analyzed vs control group.

Sclerosing perineurioma: case report and literature review.

Perineuriomas are rare tumors derived from perineural cells usually presenting as a single asymptomatic papule or nodule located on an extremity of an adult. A sclerosing subtype has been rarely described. We report a case of painful sclerosing perineurioma in a 42-year-old woman.

Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with cancer mortality in younger patients.
