Frameless Gamma Knife Radiosurgery with Leksell ICON: Initial Experience.

Gamma knife radiosurgery saw the light of the day when the Swedish physician "Lars Leksell" postulated the salient first principles of stereotactic radiosurgery. Prior to being realized in its new 'avatar' "The ICON", Leksell Gamma Knife (LGK) "Perfexion" has been the most practiced model and is still in practice in most of the centers in India. The Gamma Knife ICON (the sixth generation model) utilizes the concept of the Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) module, thus allowing non-invasive immobilization of the skull employing frameless treatments without jeopardizing accuracy to sub-millimeters.

Lean Body Mass and Bone Health in Urban Adolescents From Northern India.

Objective: To prepare percentile charts of lean body mass (LBM) among Indian urban children and adolescents; and to evaluate gender differences in LBM, and its relation with pubertal status.

Design: Secondary data analysis.

Setting: School in city of Delhi, India.

Heparin: induced thrombocytopenia: incidence and laboratory approach to diagnosis in Indians.

Background And Objectives: One of the most common complications of heparin administration is heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) which can also lead to catastrophic thrombotic events. The problem of identifying the cause of thrombocytopenia, as due to heparin, in patients with multiple co-morbid conditions is very essential for management. Thus, the laboratory investigations for diagnosis of HIT play a pivotal role.

HARTMANN'S PROCEDURE REVISITED.

Between July 1991 and June 1999 out of 176 patients undergoing colonic surgery (elective and emergency), Hartmann's procedure was performed in 63. There were 39 males and 24 females. Mean age was 43 years (range 12 to 81).
