Background: Preterm neonates not fed an exclusive human-milk diet in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) show disproportionate postnatal growth. There are scant data on postnatal growth in neonates from India fed an exclusive expressed breast milk (EBM) diet. This study describes the postnatal changes in weight, length, and head circumference in preterm neonates given EBM with selected fortification.

Evaluation of Rh-Hemolytic Disease in Neonates and Management with Early Intensive Phototherapy in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Background Of The Study: In neonates with Rh-hemolytic disease, light emitting diode (LED) phototherapy allows delivery of high spectral irradiance (SI). A linear correlation exists between SI and efficacy of phototherapy with no saturation point. There is scant data on evaluation and early phototherapy using LED units in Rh-hemolytic disease.

Background And Aims: Several drug combinations have been tried in patients with acyanotic congenital heart disease (ACHD) undergoing transcatheter device closure in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory (CCL). Adequate sedation, analgesia, akinesia, cardiorespiratory stability, and prompt recovery are key requirements. Ketamine with propofol is used for this purpose.

Anterior Fontanelle Size in Healthy Indian Late Preterm and Full Term Newborns.

Objective: To measure the size of the anterior fontanelle (AF) in healthy late-preterm and term newborns and correlate it with birth weight, gestational age, gender, occipito-frontal circumference, small for gestational age status and birth weight z-score.

Methods: This was an observational study carried out from October 2013 through April 2015 at a tertiary care hospital. Newborns ≥ 34 wk gestation were enrolled.

Identification of novel GHRHR and GH1 mutations in patients with isolated growth hormone deficiency.

Objective: Human growth is an elementary process which starts at conception and continues through different stages of development under the influence of growth hormone (GH) secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. Variation affecting the production, release and functional activity of GH leads to growth hormone deficiency (GHD), which is of two types: isolated growth hormone deficiency (IGHD) and combined pituitary hormone deficiency (CPHD). IGHD may result from mutations in GH1 and GHRHR while CPHD is associated with defects in transcription factor genes PROP1, POU1F1 and HESX1.

Management of Isolated Musculocutaneous Injury: Comparing Double Fascicular Nerve Transfer With Conventional Nerve Grafting.

Purpose: To compare the functional outcomes of nerve grafts and nerve transfers in the management of isolated musculocutaneous nerve (MCN) injuries.

Methods: We performed a retrospective case-control study of isolated MCN injury managed at a tertiary care center. The study group was composed of 12 patients managed with double nerve transfer whereas the 8 patients in the grafted group constituted the control group.

The clinical spectrum of 14 cases of Plasmodium falciparum malaria (PF) who received empirical treatment and suffered from initial prolonged mild illness culminating into severe complicated malaria are presented. The empirical treatment (ET) consisted of adequate doses of chloroquine in 9, chloroquine with pyrimethamine-sulphadoxine combination in 3 and pyrimethamine-sulphadoxine alone in 2 cases. Moderate fever and weakness persisted for 7 to 28 days leading to anaemia and progressive hepatosplenomegaly in all patients.

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) requires expensive equipment and special training. Mini-lap cholecystectomy (MLC) has no start-up costs but no large series from a single centre has been reported as the procedure is considered hazardous because of inadequate exposure of the surgical field.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the outcome of 737 cholecystectomies performed through a 3-5-cm transverse subcostal incision and compared the results to published series of laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
