Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a critical global health concern characterized by elevated rates of both morbidity and mortality. The pathological and physiological changes after TBI are closely related to microglia. Microglia, the primary immune cells in the brain, are closely linked to the mechanisms and treatment of TBI.

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) poses a significant global health challenge, necessitating comprehensive exploration of its etiology. This study investigates the intricate relationship between body composition and NAFLD prevalence, focusing on the balance between muscle mass and fat content.

Methods: Employing a retrospective cross-sectional design, 2,493 participants undergoing routine health examinations were analyzed.

Altered expression of the Plexin-B2 system in tuberous sclerosis complex and focal cortical dysplasia IIb lesions.

Histol Histopathol

September 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, Epilepsy Research Center of PLA, Xinqiao Hospital, Army Medical University, Chongqing, PR China.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) type IIb are the predominant causes of drug-refractory epilepsy in children. Dysmorphic neurons (DNs), giant cells (GCs), and balloon cells (BCs) are the most typical pathogenic profiles in cortical lesions of TSC and FCD IIb patients. However, mechanisms underlying the pathological processes of TSC and FCD IIb remain obscure.

Background: More than half of patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE), and resection surgery is the most effective way to control intractable epilepsy. Precise preoperative localization of epileptogenic tubers among all cortical tubers determines the surgical outcomes and patient prognosis. Models for preoperatively predicting epileptogenic tubers using F-FDG PET images are still lacking, however.

A foot structure study of new arch flexibility grading system based on three-dimensional arch volume.

Chin J Traumatol

November 2023

Department of Orthopedics, Daping Hospital, Army Medical University, Chongqing, 400042, China. Electronic address:

Purpose: Different arch structures may cause different foot function injuries. In the past, the arch structure and flexibility of the foot were often defined by the height of the arch, and there was no three-dimensional (3D) structure classification method. In order to form a more complete 3D description, we propose a new classification system of arch volume flexibility (AVF), and then use this new classification system to investigate the relationship between the AVF and arch index (AI), and the arch height flexibility (AHF) and AI, respectively.

Background: Focal cortical dysplasia type IIb (FCDIIb) and tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) show persistent neuroinflammation, which promotes epileptogenesis and epilepsy progression, suggesting that endogenous resolution of inflammation is inadequate to relieve neuronal network hyperexcitability. To explore the potential roles of formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2), which is a key regulator of inflammation resolution, in epilepsy caused by FCDIIb and TSC, we examined the expression and cellular distribution of FPR2.

Method: The expression of FPR2 and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway was examined by real-time PCR, western blots, and analyzed via one-way analysis of variance.

High glucose stimulating ECM remodeling and an inflammatory phenotype in the IPFP via upregulation of MFAP5 expression.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

April 2022

Department of Endocrinology, Armed Police Hospital of Chongqing, Weiguo Road, No. 90, Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and inflammation in the infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) are associated with cartilage degeneration and the severity of osteoarthritis (OA). Diabetes is associated with the progression of OA. However, it is still unclear whether diabetes can promote osteoarthritis by targeting the IPFP.

Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (HPSCC) is one of the causes of death in elderly patients, an accurate prediction of survival can effectively improve the prognosis of patients. However, there is no accurate assessment of the survival prognosis of elderly patients with HPSCC. The purpose of this study is to establish a nomogram to predict the cancer-specific survival (CSS) of elderly patients with HPSCC.

Background: Recurrence of high-risk diabetic feet, after wound, healing is a common challenge among diabetic patients. Continuous use of an offloading device significantly prevents recurrence of high-risk diabetic feet, although patient adherence is imperative to ensuring this therapy's clinical efficacy. In this study, we explored clinical outcomes of patients with a high-risk diabetic foot who had been prescribed with custom-molded offloading footwear under different adherence conditions.

Background: ANGPTL8 has been reported to be a regulator of lipid metabolism, and it is associated with insulin resistance (IR) and metabolic syndrome (MetS). We investigated whether ANGPTL8 plays a role in MetS.

Methods: ANGPTL8 and adiponectin concentrations were measured in PCOS patients with or without MetS and in their corresponding healthy controls.

Background: Adipokines are reported to participate in many common pathologic processes of glucose dysregulation, such as insulin resistance, -cell dysfunction, and chronic inflammation.

Objective: To detect the concentrations of plasma asprosin in subjects with impaired glucose regulation (IGR) and newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes (nT2DM) and its relationship to parameters of glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and pancreatic -cell function.

Methods: 143 eligible participants were included and were divided into three groups including normal glucose regulation (NGR, = 52), IGR ( = 40), and nT2DM group ( = 51).

Background: 11β-Hydroxylase deficiency (11OHD) is a common form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia that has been shown to result from inactivating CYP11B1 mutations, and pathogenic CYP11B2/CYP11B1 chimeras contribute to a minority of cases. Heterozygote cases (chimeras combined with missense mutation) are very rare, and genetic analysis of these cases is difficult.

Case Presentation: We describe an 11OHD patient presenting with precocious pseudopuberty and hypokalemia hypertension who harbored a chimeric CYP11B2/CYP11B1 with a novel breakage point located at g.

Plasma fetuin-B concentrations are associated with insulin resistance and first-phase glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in individuals with different degrees of glucose tolerance.

Diabetes Metab

December 2018

Department of Endocrinology, Translational Research Key Laboratory for Diabetes, Xinqiao Hospital, Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

Aims: To assess circulating fetuin-B concentrations in subjects with different degrees of glucose tolerance and to analyze the association of fetuin-B concentrations with insulin resistance and the first phase of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion.

Methods: Plasma fetuin-B concentrations were analyzed in 149 subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT, n=54), impaired glucose regulation (preDM, n=42) and newly diagnosed type-2 diabetes mellitus (nT2DM, n=53). Intravenous glucose tolerance tests (IVGTTs) and biochemical parameters were also assessed in all participants.
