Frontiers Science Center for Transformative Molecules, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Biomedical Engineering, National Center for Translational Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, 200240, China.

Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) has demonstrated versatile applications in biomedicine, including tumor imaging, cell tracking, and image-guided hyperthermia. Despite these advancements, the prevalent use of clinically approved tracers has posed limitations on MPI's resolution and sensitivity. In this study, we engineered a bimagnetic core/shell nanocrystals (BMCS) tailored for MPI by optimizing the heterostructure and modulating the exchange coupling effect between the two magnetic components.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates tuberculosis (TB) rates among students in Jilin Province, China, emphasizing the impact of social inequality on incidence trends and demographic shifts in new cases.
  • Utilizing various analytical methods like joinpoint regression and Geodetector, the research finds a declining trend in TB cases, particularly among male students, with geographical variations showing higher rates in urban areas compared to rural ones.
  • The findings highlight significant hotspots of TB transmission between 2008 and 2018, with strong correlations to socio-economic factors, suggesting that urban centers and higher educational institutions are more affected by TB, particularly influenced by economic determinants.

In response to traumatic brain injury, a subpopulation of cortical astrocytes is activated, resulting in acquisition of stem cell properties, known as reactive astrocytes-derived progenitor cells (Rad-PCs). However, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown during this process. In this study, we examined the role of N-myc downstream-regulated gene 2 (NDRG2), a differentiation- and stress-associated molecule, in Rad-PCs after cortical stab injury in adult rats.

Electronic address:

Background: Surgery is the cornerstone of colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment, yet complete removal of the tumour remains a challenge. The second near-infrared window (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) fluorescent molecular imaging is a novel technique, which has broad application prospects in tumour surgical navigation. We aimed to evaluate the ability of CEACAM5-targeted probe for CRC recognition and the value of NIR-II imaging-guided CRC resection.

Objective: The study aims to explore the feasibility and clinical effect of posterior minimally invasive treatment of cruciate ligament tibial avulsion fracture.

Methods: Posterior knee minimally invasive approach was used to treat avulsion fracture of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tibia in 15 males and 11 females. The length of the incision, intraoperative blood loss, operation time, postoperative hospital stay, residual relaxation, and fracture healing time were analyzed to evaluate the curative effect, learning curve, and advantages of the new technology.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a minimally invasive arthroscopic approach and to compare it with the traditional inverted "L" approach for the treatment of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fractures.

Methods: From January 2016 to January 2020, the clinical data from patients with PCL avulsion fracture of the tibial insertion were analyzed retrospectively. They were divided into two groups based on surgical approaches: minimally invasive approach group ( = 15) and traditional inverted "L" group ( = 15 cases).

Exenatide Twice Daily Plus Glargine Versus Aspart 70/30 Twice Daily in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes With Inadequate Glycemic Control on Premixed Human Insulin and Metformin.

Endocr Pract

August 2021

Division of Endocrinology, Branch of National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Disease, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. Electronic address:

Objective: Many patients with type 2 diabetes treated with premixed insulin gradually have inadequate glycemic control and switch to a basal-bolus regimen, which raises some concerns for weight gain and increased hypoglycemic risk. Switching to combination use of glp-1 agonist and basal insulin may be an alternative option.

Methods: After a 12-week premixed human insulin 70/30 dosage optimization period, 200 patients with HbA1c of 7.

The cell-derived extracellular matrix (ECM)-modified scaffolds have advantages of mimic tissue specificity and been thought to better mimic the native cellular microenvironment . ECM derived from cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) are considered as key elements that provide a natural cell growth microenvironment and change the fate of cardiomyocytes (CMs). Here, a new hybrid scaffold is designed based on silk fibroin (SF) scaffold and CFs-derived ECM.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in the development and progression of prostate cancer (PCa). We aimd to identify a novel lncRNA, named lncRNA activated in metastatic PCa (lncAMPC), and investigate its mechanisms and clinical significance in PCa. First, the biological capacity of lncAMPC in PCa was demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo.

Pyroptosis is a form of cell death that is uniquely dependent on caspase-1. Pyroptosis involved in oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced human macrophage death through the promotion of caspase-1 activation is important for the formation of unstable plaques in atherosclerosis. The mitochondrial outer membrane protein NIX directly interacts with microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how body mass index (BMI) relates to the risk levels of thyroid nodules in a healthy population across multiple centers in China.
  • A total of 6070 participants were analyzed, revealing that a significant percentage of them had thyroid nodules, with low BMI and high fasting blood glucose being key indicators for higher-risk nodules.
  • The findings suggest that individuals with a lower BMI, particularly those aged 55 and older, have a higher likelihood of detecting high-risk thyroid nodules compared to those with normal weight or obesity.

Introduction: Trocar site incisional hernia (TSIH) is one of the most common complications of laparoscopic surgery. Using the umbilical port as a common hole for removing the gallbladder in laparoscopic cholecystectomy is more likely to lead to TSIH than other ports. Thus, extracting the gallbladder through other ports may reduce the incidence of TSIH.
