Background: is a commensal microflora commonly found in various mucosal sites in the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary tracts. It causes invasive suppurative infections including liver and brain abscesses along with thoracic empyema. However, it rarely causes meningitis without abscess formation.

Persistent inflammation over time can cause gradual harm to the body. Molecular hydrogen has the potential to specifically counteract reactive oxygen species (ROS), reduce disease severity, and enhance overall health. Investigations of the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of oral solid hydrogen capsules (OSHCs) are currently limited, prompting our examination of the beneficial effects of OSHCs.

Background: ChatGPT may act as a research assistant to help organize the direction of thinking and summarize research findings. However, few studies have examined the quality, similarity (abstracts being similar to the original one), and accuracy of the abstracts generated by ChatGPT when researchers provide full-text basic research papers.
Objective: We aimed to assess the applicability of an artificial intelligence (AI) model in generating abstracts for basic preclinical research.

Background: Vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is crucial for preventing and minimizing illness. Myocarditis and pericarditis after messenger RNA (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccination in adolescents and young adult males have been reported. Most of the studies in this area rely on retrospective symptom reporting, especially for adolescents experiencing myocarditis as a potential side effect.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the potential of arthroscopic scapholunate ligament repair and dorsal capsulodesis with suture anchor as a treatment option for patients experiencing symptomatic acute and subacute (< 3 months) scapholunate instability.
Methods: From Jan. 2017 to Jan 2020, 19 wrists with acute or subacute tears of the SL ligament with symptomatic instability were treated with arthroscopic SL repair and dorsal capsulodesis with a suture anchor.

Background: Metabolic syndrome is characterized by a cluster-like occurrence of conditions such as hypertension, hyperglycaemia, elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol or triglycerides (TG) and high visceral fat. Metabolic syndrome is linked to the build-up of plaque within the artery, which leads to disorders of the circulatory, nervous and immune systems. A variety of treatments target the regulation of these conditions; nevertheless, they remain dominant risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), which affect 26.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major public health issue, and there are limited studies on the association between 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 4 (HSD17B4) polymorphism and CRC. We used two national databases from Taiwan to examine whether HSD17B4 rs721673, rs721675, and alcohol intake were independently and interactively correlated with CRC development. We linked the Taiwan Biobank (TWB) participants' health and lifestyle information and genotypic data from 2012 to 2018 to the National Health Insurance Database (NHIRD) to confirm their medical records.

Background: This study was designed to analyze the clinical follow-up results (minimum of 2 years) in patients with stable nonunion, unstable nonunion, or nonunion of the scaphoid with early degenerative radioscaphoid arthritis (Lichtman classification stage I-III) treated with arthroscopic osteosynthesis with autogenous bone graft.
Methods: We retrospectively recruited 44 consecutive patients with scaphoid fracture nonunion treated with arthroscopy-assisted percutaneous internal fixation with autogenous bone grafts from January 2010 to November 2019. We recorded union and return to activity and analyzed data with regular clinical follow-up at a mean duration of 33 months (range 24-46 months).

Recurrence of pressure ulcers following reconstructive surgery occurs frequently, causing a significant burden on the patient and the public health care system. We assessed risk factors for the recurrence of pressure ulcers based on the experience of a single surgeon at our medical centre. We retrospectively analysed patients admitted to our medical centre with stage III and IV pressure ulcers who underwent reconstructive surgery.

Although ramelteon has been examined as a relatively new therapeutic option for delirium prevention, current evidence to evaluate its efficacy is limited. We conducted an updated meta-analysis and examine the reliability of existing evidence regarding the effect of ramelteon on delirium prevention in hospitalized patients. Seven major electronic databases were systematically searched to identify randomized controlled trials examining the efficacy of ramelteon in delirium prevention.

Statin treatment for hypercholesterolemia may cause reversible rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury in susceptible patients. However, persistent rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury following discontinuation of statins require careful evaluation of the underlying causes to avoid missing a curable disease. We describe a 50-year-old woman with hypercholesterolemia [total cholesterol 345 mg/dl, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) 266 mg/dL] on atorvastatin therapy (40 mg daily) for 1 month that presented with myalgia and muscle weakness.

An extrahepatic manifestation of nephropathies can be a feature of the chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Albuminuria is a major risk factor for nephropathies and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The correlation between HCV genotypes and albuminuria is still unclear.

The severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is determined not only by viral damage to cells but also by the immune reaction in the host. In addition to therapeutic interventions that target the viral infection, immunoregulation may be helpful in the management of COVID-19. Vitamin D exerts effects on both innate and adaptive immunity and subsequently modulates immune responses to bacteria and viruses.

Each patient undergoing maintenance haemodialysis (MHD) has a different response to erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs). Haemodilution due to fluid overload has been shown to contribute to anaemia. Body mass index (BMI) has been shown to influence ESA response in dialysis patients; however, BMI calculation does not distinguish between fat and lean tissue.

Background: Depression has been reported as a risk factor for dementia, as well as the continuation of dementia development. This study aimed to stratify older people with dementia (PwD) into three groups (no depression, early depression and recent depression) to compare their inpatient health care utilization and to explore related clinical impacts.
Methods: Overall, 11,612 PwD were identified from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database and were further divided into 9,257 PwD without depression, 1,179 PwD with recent depression (< 2 years from dementia diagnosis), and 1,176 PwD with early depression (> 2 years from dementia diagnosis).

Introduction: This study aimed to verify the predictors of the diagnostic accuracy of rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) in endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) among patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients with NSCLC who underwent EBUS-TBNA for staging or diagnosis at our hospital from June 2016 to June 2018. The patients were divided into two groups—those with a correct diagnosis and an incorrect diagnosis after ROSE.

Background: Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) stenosis remains an important cause of AVF maturation failure, for which there are currently no effective therapies. We examined the pattern and phenotype of cellular proliferation at different timepoints in a mouse model characterized by a peri-anastomotic AVF stenosis.
Methods: Standard immunohistochemical analyses for cellular proliferation and macrophage infiltration were performed at 2, 7 and 14 d on our validated mouse model of AVF stenosis to study the temporal profile, geographical location and cellular phenotype of proliferating and infiltrating cells in this model.
