Article Synopsis
  • - Macrothrompocytopenia (MTP) is a rare hereditary disorder caused by genetic mutations that affect blood clotting, primarily due to dysfunction in megakaryocytes, which are crucial for platelet production
  • - The DIAPH1 gene plays a significant role in this disorder, with variants leading to macrothrombocytopenia and associated conditions like sensorineural deafness; different mutations result in varying symptoms including seizures and microcephaly in more severe cases
  • - A case study of a 14-year-old Saudi girl highlighted a novel mutation (c.3633_3636del) in the DIAPH1 gene, suggesting its potential link to both MTP and autosomal dominant non-syndromic

  • Follicular Mycosis Fungoides (F-MF) is a rare variant of Mycosis Fungoides (MF), which is a type of skin lymphoma and should be considered when diagnosing hair loss.
  • Accurate diagnosis of F-MF relies on a detailed medical history, physical exams, and a combination of immunohistological and molecular analyses.
  • A case study of a 52-year-old man with recurrent scalp lesions demonstrated typical symptoms and histological features that led to a diagnosis of F-MF, highlighting the complexity of identifying this condition.

Ceftazidime/avibactam (CAZ-AVI) is FDA-approved for managing infections caused by resistant gram-negative bacilli, particularly infections via carbapenem-resistant pathogens. The clinical data are still limited, particularly those in Saudi Arabia. The present study is a retrospective cohort study that was carried out at the Armed Forces Hospital in the southern region of Saudi Arabia to compare the clinical and microbiological outcomes for CAZ-AVI-treated patients as monotherapy and as an add-on to standard therapy for carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) OXA-48 infections to those treated with standard drugs.
