Contributions of Artificial Intelligence Reported in Obstetrics and Gynecology Journals: Systematic Review.

Background: The applications of artificial intelligence (AI) processes have grown significantly in all medical disciplines during the last decades. Two main types of AI have been applied in medicine: symbolic AI (eg, knowledge base and ontologies) and nonsymbolic AI (eg, machine learning and artificial neural networks). Consequently, AI has also been applied across most obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) domains, including general obstetrics, gynecology surgery, fetal ultrasound, and assisted reproductive medicine, among others.

Maintenance of Asthma Control in Adolescents with Severe Asthma After Transitioning to a Specialist Adult Centre: A French Cohort Experience.

Background: The prevalence of severe asthma in adolescents is estimated at 6.7%. Transition to adult health services is a vulnerable period for adolescents where there is a risk of poor treatment adherence and loss to follow-up.

An observational, prospective, multicenter, natural history study of patients with mucopolysaccharidosis type IIIA.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type IIIA (MPS IIIA, also known as Sanfilippo syndrome) is a rare genetic lysosomal storage disease characterized by early and progressive neurodegeneration resulting in a rapid decline in cognitive function affecting speech and language, adaptive behavior, and motor skills. We carried out a prospective observational study to assess the natural history of patients with MPS IIIA, using both standardized tests and patient-centric measures to determine the course of disease progression over a 2-year period. A cohort of 23 patients (7 girls, 16 boys; mean age 28-105 months at baseline) with a confirmed diagnosis of MPS IIIA were assessed and followed up at intervals of 3-6 months; cognitive function was measured using Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development 3rd edition (BSID-III) to derive cognitive development quotients (DQ).

Extracranial rhabdoid tumours: Results of a SFCE series of patients treated with a dose compression strategy according to European Paediatric Soft tisue sarcoma Study Group recommendations.

Background And Aims: Extracranial malignant rhabdoid tumours are tumours that mainly affect young children and have a poor prognosis. In 2014, the European Paediatric Soft-tissue sarcoma Study Group developed treatment recommendations consisting in intensive dose chemotherapy every 2 weeks using vincristine-doxorubicin-cyclophosphamide (VDCy) and ifosfamide-etoposide (IE) associated with early surgery and irradiation of tumour sites.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on children treated in France by these new recommendations up to January 2019.

Fall of Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Children following COVID-19 Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions: A Time Series Analysis.

Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) were implemented to reduce the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A first national lockdown was decided in France on the 17 March 2020. These measures had an impact on other viral and non-viral infectious diseases.

Feasibility of open abdomen surgery treatment for near fatal necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants.

Introduction: Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) remained a dramatic complication leading to death or neonatal morbidities in preterms. For some, Intra-Abdominal Hypertension (IAH) and Abdominal Compartment Syndrome worsened the multi-organ failure. An open abdomen surgery could be an alternative to conventional surgical treatment to move beyond this stage.

Pediatric Home Parenteral Nutrition in France: A six years national survey.

Background And Aims: Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) is the cornerstone management for children suffering from chronic intestinal failure (CIF). In France, HPN is organized from a network of 7 certified centers located in University Hospitals spread across the national territory. This study aims to review the data involving children on HPN over a 6-years period in France to outline the global and continuous improvement in care.

The effect of tranexamic acid on blood loss in orthognathic surgery: a randomized, placebo-controlled, equivalence study.

Orthognathic surgery can cause substantial bleeding. Recent meta-analyses concluded that there is a statistically significant reduction in perioperative blood loss with the preventive use of tranexamic acid (TA). However, the mean reported difference in bleeding was moderate, and the clinical relevance of this blood-sparing effect remains debated.

A monocyte/dendritic cell molecular signature of SARS-CoV-2-related multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children with severe myocarditis.

Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in children is generally milder than in adults, but a proportion of cases result in hyperinflammatory conditions often including myocarditis.

Methods: To better understand these cases, we applied a multiparametric approach to the study of blood cells of 56 children hospitalized with suspicion of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Plasma cytokine and chemokine levels and blood cellular composition were measured, alongside gene expression at the bulk and single-cell levels.

Reading Comprehension Impairment in Children With Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1): The Need of Multimodal Assessment of Attention.

Attention span, which has been shown to have an impact on reading quality in many other conditions, is one of the main cognitive disorders of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). The aim of this work is to observe the impact of attention on reading comprehension, in NF1 and non-NF1 children. A multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted on 150 children (8-12 years old) with or without NF1 (75 NF1 vs 75 non-NF1; 72 female, 78 male), matched for age, sex, handedness, and reading level, thus forming a continuum from good to poor readers in both NF1 and non-NF1 groups.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic: Impact Caused by School Closure and National Lockdown on Pediatric Visits and Admissions for Viral and Nonviral Infections-a Time Series Analysis.

A time series analysis of 871 543 pediatric emergency visits revealed that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown and school closures were associated with a significant decrease in infectious diseases disseminated through airborne or fecal-oral transmission: common cold, gastroenteritis, bronchiolitis, and acute otitis. No change was found for urinary tract infections.

Long term follow-up of pediatric-onset Evans syndrome: broad immunopathological manifestations and high treatment burden.

Pediatric-onset Evans syndrome (pES) is defined by both immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) before the age of 18 years. There have been no comprehensive long-term studies of this rare disease, which can be associated to various immunopathological manifestations (IM). We report outcomes of the 151 patients with pES and more than 5 years of follow-up from the nationwide French prospective OBS'CEREVANCE cohort.

Prediction of reactivity during tracheal intubation by pre-laryngoscopy tetanus-induced ANI variation.

The ANI is a nociception monitor based on the high frequency parts of heart rate variability. Tracheal intubation may induce potentially deleterious hemodynamic disturbances or motor reactions if analgesia is inadequate. We investigated whether ANI modification generated by a standardized moderate short tetanic stimulation performed before laryngoscopy could predict hemodynamic or somatic reactions to subsequent intubation.

Factors Associated With Severe SARS-CoV-2 Infection.

Background: Initial reports on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections in children suggested that very young age and comorbidities may increase risk of severe evolution, but these findings remained to be confirmed. We aimed to analyze the clinical spectrum of hospitalized pediatric SARS-CoV-2 infection and predictors of severe disease evolution.

Methods: We conducted a French national prospective surveillance of children hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Understanding maternal mortality in women with obesity and the role of care they receive: a national case-control study.

Objective: Obesity has significant implications for the health of pregnant women. However, few studies have quantified its association with maternal mortality or examined the relevant underlying causes and the role of care, although this remains the most severe maternal outcome. Our objectives were to quantify the risk of maternal death by prepregnancy body mass index and to determine whether obesity affected the quality of care of the women who died.
