Gaseous nitric oxide under increased atmospheric pressure (gNOp) has shown ability to kill multidrug-resistant bacteria in an in vitro model and in a live mammalian (porcine) model. Factors impacting the kill rate of the multidrug-resistant bacteria include atmospheric pressures, concentration of gaseous NO, flow rate, and duration of application. Using successful in vitro parameters, gNOp showed multilog reduction of bacteria in a live mammalian (porcine) model.

This case illustrates the complexity and interrelationship of osseous pathology with peripheral nerve entrapment and neuromata. She had an iatrogenic nerve injury of a branch of the medial dorsal cutaneous nerve causing her painful scar. Secondarily, she developed an injury to her common peroneal nerve from the cast immobilization, resulting in palsy/drop foot.

Burning sensation in the feet is a common problem encountered in podiatric medicine. When this pain is bilateral, symmetric, and includes the top and bottom of both feet, small nerve fiber involvement must be considered in the differential diagnosis. With the now available, in-office, skin biopsy quantification of intraepidermal nerve fibers, documentation of the presence of small fiber involvement in the pain mechanism is possible.

This article reviews the history of sports medicine highlighting the "jogging boom" of the 1970s and the advocacy of Dr George Sheehan, which boosted the position of podiatry in sports medicine. Significant events in mainstream sports medicine that promoted the rise of podiatric medicine are discussed. Reasons as to why podiatric medicine should be a member of the sports medicine team are outlined, and lastly, examples that highlight podiatric medicine as participants alongside other specialties in the evaluation and care of athletes are given.

Human footprint fossils have provided essential evidence about the evolution of human bipedalism as well as the social dynamics of the footprint makers, including estimates of speed, sex and group composition. Generally such estimates are made by comparing footprint evidence with modern controls; however, previous studies have not accounted for the variation in footprint dimensions coming from load bearing activities. It is likely that a portion of the hominins who created these fossil footprints were carrying a significant load, such as offspring or foraging loads, which caused variation in the footprint which could extend to variation in any estimations concerning the footprint's maker.

Hidradenomas are adenomatous tumors of sweat gland origin that are usually benign and can occur in any cutaneous skin surface. When malignant, the tumors have high recurrence rates and are often fatal. Because of their infrequency and clinical ambiguity, hidradenomas are often misdiagnosed as other soft-tissue masses.
