Aims: Racial disparities exist in clinical outcomes for valvular heart disease (VHD). It is unknown whether clinician segregation contributes to these disparities. Among an adequately insured population, we evaluated the relationship between clinician segregation in a hospital and receipt of care by a cardiologist according to patient race.

Pectus excavatum (PE) is a common anterior chest wall deformity that affects the heart and lungs depending on the severity of compression. The Nuss procedure, a minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum, has evolved over the years with thoracoscopic assistance and minimal incision. Despite improved surgical techniques, pain and nausea are often the most common factors determining hospital length of stay.

Infants with dextro-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) are at high risk for hemodynamic compromise in the immediate postnatal period due to dependence on intracardiac mixing for oxygen delivery. This period of profound hypoxemia may have long-term implications, as previous studies demonstrated patients with d-TGA are at increased risk for neurocognitive delays despite effective surgical correction in the neonatal period. Balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) is an established intervention that improves intracardiac mixing and perioperative hemodynamics.

Rapid economic growth in Indonesia and Malaysia has widened the gap in emergency care supply and demand, intensifying challenges. Our study, from August to November 2022, assesses current diverse challenges in both countries' emergency care systems from frontline staff perspectives. The online survey involved emergency department (ED) personnel from 11 hospitals in Indonesia and Malaysia, drawing from an existing network.

Objectives: The delta shock index (ΔSI), defined as the change in shock index (SI) over time, is associated with hospital morbidity and mortality, but prehospital studies about ΔSI are limited. We investigate the association of prehospital ΔSI with mortality and resource utilization, hypothesizing that increases in SI among field trauma patients are associated with increased mortality and blood product transfusion.
Methods: We performed a multicenter, retrospective, observational study from the Linking Investigators in Trauma and Emergency Services (LITES) network.

Background: Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is a guideline-recommended therapy in patients with heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF, 36%-50%) and left bundle branch block or indication for ventricular pacing. Conduction system pacing (CSP) using left bundle branch area pacing or His bundle pacing has been shown to be a safe and physiologic alternative to biventricular pacing (BVP).
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes between BVP and CSP for patients with HFmrEF undergoing CRT.

Objective: Several observational studies have demonstrated an association between diabetes mellitus (DM) and above-ankle amputation after lower extremity revascularization (LER). However, data from prospective randomized trials is lacking. This analysis compares the outcomes of patients with and without DM enrolled in the Best Endovascular vs Best Surgical Therapy in patients with Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia (BEST-CLI) trial.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted healthcare delivery and increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This study assesses whether cardiovascular mortality rates in the US have recovered post-pandemic and examines the equity of this recovery across different populations.
Methods: We analyzed data from the CDC WONDER database, covering US residents' mortality from 2018-2023.

Hypertension is one of the leading risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The ACC/AHA/Multisociety hypertension guideline covered all aspects of the recommendations for optimal blood pressure diagnosis and management to improve cardiovascular outcomes. Despite this, there remains a growing prevalence of hypertension within the United States, largely in non-Hispanic Black women at earlier stages of their life course.

Neonatal dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a poorly understood muscular disease of the heart. Several homozygous biallelic variants in LMOD2, the gene encoding the actin-binding protein Leiomodin 2, have been identified to result in severe DCM. Collectively, LMOD2-related cardiomyopathies present with cardiac dilation and decreased heart contractility, often resulting in neonatal death.

Background: Real-world mortality data regarding heart failure in patients with comorbid chronic kidney disease remains limited, especially following the advent of advanced heart failure therapies.
Methods: Using the CDC WONDER database, we included patients ≥ 25 years old who died primarily from heart failure (2011-2020) with comorbid chronic kidney disease. We calculated age-adjusted mortality rates (AAMR) per 100,000 individuals.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected not only individual lives but also the world and global systems, both natural and human-made. Besides millions of deaths and environmental challenges, the rapid spread of the infection and its very high socioeconomic impact have affected healthcare, economic status and wealth, and mental health across the globe. To better appreciate the pandemic's influence, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches are needed.

Contemporary studies of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) within American Indian communities are lacking, despite recent work indicating high rates of group A streptococcus, the precursor to RHD. Utilizing retrospective chart review of the Indian Health Service, we sought to characterize the burden of acute rheumatic fever and RHD within an American Indian tribe in Eastern Arizona. Our study found that, in line with other high-income countries, RHD in the US continues to disproportionately impact native peoples, with rates 10 times that of the general population.
