Although methods for Cys-specific bioconjugation and functionalization of proteins have been developed and widely utilized in biomolecule engineering and therapeutic development, reagents for this purpose are generally designed to accomplish bioconjugation only. Consequently, additional clickable groups must be attached to these reagents to accomplish functionalization. Cancer survivors have elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines, which could be associated with cancer-related symptoms. Given that proinflammatory cytokines heighten negative affect by directly affecting the brain, we explored these direct associations and whether differences in levels of emotional awareness moderate the associations between proinflammatory cytokines and cancer-related symptoms. This cross-sectional, secondary analysis of baseline data was collected from 162 female breast cancer survivors (aged 36-70 years), who were enrolled 6 ± 4 months after completing cancer treatment.

Purpose: SWOG S1815 was a randomized, open label phase III trial, evaluating gemcitabine, nab-paclitaxel, and cisplatin (GAP) versus gemcitabine and cisplatin (GC) in patients with newly diagnosed advanced biliary tract cancers (BTCs).

Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed locally advanced unresectable or metastatic BTC, including intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ECC) and gallbladder carcinoma (GBC), were randomly assigned 2:1 to either GAP (gemcitabine 800 mg/m, cisplatin 25 mg/m, and nab-paclitaxel 100 mg/m intravenously once per day on days 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle) or GC (gemcitabine 1,000 mg/m and cisplatin 25 mg/m intravenously once per day on days 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle).

Results: Among 452 randomly assigned participants, 441 were eligible and analyzable, 67% with ICC, 16% with GBC, and 17% with ECC.

Purpose: Three sequences of telephone symptom management interventions were tested on use of unscheduled health services among cancer survivors with depressive or anxiety symptoms during treatment (N = 334) and their informal caregivers (N = 333).

Methods: The three 12-week intervention sequences were as follows: (1) Symptom Management and Survivorship Handbook (SMSH), (2) a combined 8-week SMSH + Telephone Interpersonal Counseling (TIPC) followed by SMSH for 4 weeks, and (3) SMSH for 4 weeks followed by a combined SMSH + TIPC if no response to SMSH alone. Survivor-caregiver dyads were first randomized to SMSH or a combined SMSH + TIPC.

The Black Church has long been an institution of refuge, mobilization, and healing in Black or African American communities. While health promotion interventions have been implemented in the Black Church, little is known about ways to incorporate faith into colorectal cancer (CRC) screening messages. Background: The purpose of the Accelerating Colorectal Cancer Screening and Follow-up through Implementation Science (ACCSIS) Program, a Cancer Moonshot℠ Initiative, is to support research to build the evidence base on multilevel interventions that increase rates of colorectal cancer screening, follow-up, and referral to care to address disparities in colorectal cancer screening. The National Cancer Institute funded eight Research Projects to implement multilevel interventions to improve colorectal cancer screening among communities who traditionally have been medically underserved.
