To explore the effects of triacontanol (TR) on drought tolerance of strawberry plants (cv Fertona), two field experiments were carried out to study the effects of three supplementary foliar TR rates (0, 0.5, and 1 ppm) under the following three levels of water irrigation: 11 m/hectare (40% of water holding capacity (WHC) severe as a drought treatment, 22 m/hectare (80% of WHC) as moderate drought stress, and normal irrigation with 27 m/hectare (100% of WHC) server as a control treatment. The myostatin (MSTN) gene has shown to play a critical role in the regulation of skeletal muscle mass, and the translational inhibition of this gene has shown increased muscle mass, generating what is known as "double-muscling phenotype." Disruption of the MSTN gene expression using the CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing system has shown improved muscle development and growth rates in livestock species, including sheep and goats. Here, we describe procedures for the generation of MSTN knockout sheep and goats using the microinjection approach of the CRISPR/Cas9 system, including the selection of targeting sgRNAs, the construction of CRISPR/Cas9 targeting vector, the in vitro examination of system efficiency, the in vivo targeting to generate MSTN knockout founders, the genomic and phenotypic characterization of the generated offspring, and the assessment of off-target effects in gene-edited founders through targeted validation of predicted off-target sites, as well as genome-wide off-target analysis by whole-genome sequencing.

This paper investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security and on coping-strategies in urban and peri-urban areas of the Hyderabad, India. Household survey data were collected before (October 2018) and during (January 2021) the onset of the pandemic. Results from logistic regression with the standarized Food Insecurity Expecience Scale (FIES) as dependent variable reveal that close to 40% of the households surveyed experienced a deterioration in food security status during the pandemic.

The changes in the functional properties of trypsin from shrimps () after, Atmospheric Cold Plasma (ACP) treatments, have been evaluated in terms of enzyme inactivation, surface hydrophobicity, secondary structure, fluorescence intensity, and particle size distribution. Different exposure voltages of 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 kV at various treatment times (1, 2, 3, and 4 min) have been employed, in a separate assay. The results showed that trypsin-like protease activity decreased (by about 50%), and the kinetic constants K value increased, while the k value decreased.

The impact of roasting temperatures (100, 120, 150 and 180° for 25 min) on the bioactive compounds, sensory and physicochemical properties of carob pods powder as well as the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons content (PAHs) were studied. The study also investigated whether roasting the dried carob pods (PO) or dried carob powder (CPW) is better used in the food industry. Increasing roasting temperatures resulted in several changes in the chemical composition of carob pods powder, as evidenced by significantly lower water content, protein, fat, total sugar and pH values.
