Gravitational Hamiltonian Systems and the Retarded Gravity Inequality.

Entropy (Basel)

November 2024

Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Ariel University, Ariel 40700, Israel.

Gravity and electromagnetic interactions are the only fundamental physical interactions (outside the nuclear domain). In this work, we shall concentrate on Hamiltonians containing gravitational interaction, which according to general relativity must be retarded. In recent years, retarded gravity has explained many of the mysteries surrounding the "missing mass" related to galactic rotation curves, the Tully-Fisher relations, and gravitational lensing phenomena.

Dirac Equation and Fisher Information.

Entropy (Basel)

November 2024

Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Ariel University, Ariel 40700, Israel.

Previously, it was shown that Schrödinger's theory can be derived from a potential flow Lagrangian provided a Fisher information term is added. This approach was later expanded to Pauli's theory of an electron with spin, which required a Clebsch flow Lagrangian with non-zero vorticity. Here, we use the recent relativistic flow Lagrangian to represent Dirac's theory with the addition of a Lorentz invariant Fisher information term as is required by quantum mechanics.

Senescent cells are cells that stop dividing but sustain viability. Cellular senescence is the hallmark of aging, but senescence also appears in cancer, triggered by cells stress, tumor suppression of gene activation, and oncogene activity. In lung cancer, senescent cancer cells secrete VEGF, which initiates a process of angiogenesis, enabling the cancer to grow and proliferate.

Article Synopsis
  • The study reveals that although the HPV vaccine can prevent infections and related cancers, it is underutilized, partly due to knowledge gaps among Israeli nurses and nursing students regarding the vaccine's efficacy and administration.
  • A significant number of participants had misconceptions about the vaccine, such as believing it can cure existing infections and is given as a single dose, which underscores the need for better education.
  • Findings suggest that community nurses and those with higher HPV knowledge and secular or traditional religious backgrounds are more likely to advocate for the vaccine, highlighting the importance of culturally sensitive educational programs to improve HPV vaccination rates in Israel.

Sex differences in response to intranasal oxytocin as an adjunctive therapy for patients with severe mental illness.

Psychiatry Res

December 2024

Shalvata Mental Health Center, Affiliated with the School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv-Jaffa, Israel; Department of Community Mental Health, University of Haifa, Haifa, Israel.

Studies investigating the potential benefits of intranasal oxytocin (INOT) as an add-on treatment for patients with severe mental illness (SMI) have yielded inconsistent results, potentially due to sex differences in response to INOT. This study explored the differential effects of INOT among male and female patients with SMI. A secondary analysis was conducted on a previously studied group of patients who participated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating the impact of INOT as an add-on treatment for patients with SMI.

Purpose: In this study, we explored the work of Halasartan (Stop Cancer), an Israeli nongovernmental organization (NGO) and unique social support network for cancer patients and survivors aged 18-44, during a war period. Drawing on the conservation of resources (COR) theory, we examined whether self-efficacy, social support, psychological distress, and participation in activities that were geared toward alleviating the war situation at Time 1 (T1) would predict engagement in such activities at Time 2 (T2).

Methods: A longitudinal design with two time-points was used, and NGO members completed self-report questionnaires.

Revisiting the alcohol-aggression link: The impact of alcohol consumption patterns.

Drug Alcohol Depend

December 2024

School of Criminology, Faculty of Law, University of Haifa, Haifa, Israel; The Unit and The Laboratory for Excellence in Research & Study of Addiction (ERSA) and The Center for the Study of Crime, Law, and Society, University of Haifa, Israel.

Laboratory studies have repeatedly reported a link between alcohol and aggression, yet many rely on single-dose administration methods and overlook variations in alcohol consumption patterns. The present study investigates the effects of alcohol on aggressive behavior using a double-blind, placebo-controlled cumulative drinking administration approach that mirrors the natural drinking behaviors often observed in pubs within a laboratory setting. This study also pioneers the examination of how alcohol consumption patterns (light or heavy) moderate the relationship between precise Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) levels and extreme aggressive behavior.

Affective states are reflected in the facial expressions of all mammals. Facial behaviors linked to pain have attracted most of the attention so far in non-human animals, leading to the development of numerous instruments for evaluating pain through facial expressions for various animal species. Nevertheless, manual facial expression analysis is susceptible to subjectivity and bias, is labor-intensive and often necessitates specialized expertise and training.

Proposal for a new classification of intrauterine adhesions by sites.

Int J Gynaecol Obstet

November 2024

Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, Florida, USA.

The authors propose a new classification of intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) to facilitate understanding for both the gynecologist and the patient, documenting the location and characteristics of the adhesions in a single image. This tool significantly improves surgical planning and patient outcomes in the treatment of intrauterine adhesions. In addition, having a simple and consistent method of describing IUAs will facilitate longitudinal studies tracking the outcomes of various surgical techniques, adhesion barriers and the impact of hormonal treatment.
