The intention of this study was to profile the cohort from the Greek Registry for the prevalence of Familial Hypercholesterolemia (GRegistry-FH) by estimating the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus (DM), pre-DM, smoking, abnormal thyroid function (ATF), and lipid values. The GRegistry-FH is a prospective study involving door-to-door interviews conducted by trained interviewers. Overall, 7704 individuals aged ≥18 years, randomly selected from all the regions of Greece, participated.

Purpose: To compare three biometers equipped with swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT), including ARGOS (OCTB1), IOLMaster 700 (OCTB2), and Anterion (AS-OCTB). The primary aim was to assess the axial length (AL) acquisition success rates, and secondary aims included comparing parameters obtained from the three devices and evaluating postoperative refractive prediction errors.
Setting: Chukyo Eye Clinic, Nagoya, Japan.

Objectives: To investigate associations of the carriage of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of proteins involved in the immune response of patients with brucellosis.
Methods: A case control study of patients with brucellosis upon WHO criteria. Blood genomic analysis was performed by RFLP- PCR for the detection of SNPs: i) at promoters -376 G > A (rs1800750); -308 G > A (rs 1,800,629); -238 G > A (rs361525) of the TNF gene, ii) at -896 A > G Asp299Gly (rs4986790) and -1196 C > T Thr399Ile (rs4986791) positions of the TLR-4 gene.

Background: To report a case of IgG4-related pachymeningitis presenting with cystic lesions mimicking neurocysticercosis.
Case Presentation: A 40-year-old female patient with tetraparesis, dysphagia and dysphonia was evaluated with clinical examination, magnetic resonance imaging, and meningeal biopsy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed diffuse pachymeningeal enhancement involving the cranial, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar segments with spinal cord compression and cystic lesions.

Background: Current guidelines recommend a rhythm control strategy in patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) while catheter ablation has been shown to be a safer and more efficacious approach than antiarrhythmic medications.
Methods: HECMOS was a nationwide snapshot survey of cardiorenal morbidity in hospitalized cardiology patients. In this sub-study, we included 276 cases who had a history of AF, particularly on the rhythm strategy, and catheter ablation procedures had been performed before the index admission.

Background: Metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) is a heterogenous disease with poor 5-year overall survival (OS) at 14%. Patients with mRCC to endocrine organs historically have prolonged OS. Pancreatic metastases are uncommon overall, with mRCC being the most common etiology of pancreatic metastases.

The Research Program seeks to engage at least one million diverse participants to advance precision medicine and improve human health. We describe here the cloud-based Researcher Workbench that uses a data passport model to democratize access to analytical tools and participant information including survey, physical measurement, and electronic health record (EHR) data. We also present validation study findings for several common complex diseases to demonstrate use of this novel platform in 315,000 participants, 78% of whom are from groups historically underrepresented in biomedical research, including 49% self-reporting non-White races.

In a recent study of our group with the acronym ACTIVATE, Bacillus Calmete-Guérin (BCG) vaccination reduced the occurrence of new infections compared to placebo vaccination in the elderly. Most benefit was found for respiratory infections. The ACTIVATE-2 study was launched to assess the efficacy of BCG vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

(1) Background: It is well-established that coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is highly pro-inflammatory, leading to activation of the coagulation cascade. COVID-19-induced hypercoagulability is associated with adverse outcomes and mortality. Current guidelines recommend that hospitalized COVID-19 patients should receive pharmacological prophylaxis against venous thromboembolism (VTE).

In this multicenter, single-arm phase II trial, we evaluated the efficacy of sapanisertib in patients with treatment-refractory metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC; NCT03097328).
Methods: Patients with mRCC of any histology progressing through standard therapy (including prior mTOR inhibitors) had baseline biopsy and received sapanisertib 30 mg by mouth once weekly until unacceptable toxicity or disease progression.

Background: Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is the most common long-term complication of acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT). The cumulative incidence of PTS in the first two years after the first acute DVT diagnosis approximates 25%.
Objective: This study aims to summarize the most recent updates and provide a comprehensive review of the current management of PTS.

One key element to the health of the ocular surface encompasses the presence of gel-forming mucins in the pre-ocular tear film. Conjunctival goblet cells are specialized epithelial cells that secrete mucins necessary for tear film stability and general homeostasis. Their dysfunction can be linked to a range of ocular surface inflammation disorders and chronic injuries.

Introduction: On 15 June 2020, the National Public Health Organization was informed about the identification of two cases of Escherichia coli Ο157 infection in a small town in the Peloponnese Region in Greece and we suspected an outbreak.
Methods: We asked the local pharmacist to assist us to verify the outbreak by providing the daily number of over-the-counter anti-diarrheal drugs sold from 20 May 2020 onwards. The pharmacist asked customers with gastroenteritis to submit stool samples at the local hospital.

In follicular lymphoma (FL), surface immunoglobulin (sIg) carries mandatory N-glycosylation sites in the variable regions, inserted during somatic hypermutation. These glycosylation sites are tumor-specific, indicating a critical function in FL. Added glycan unexpectedly terminates at high mannose (Mann) and confers capability for sIg-mediated interaction with local macrophage-expressed DC-SIGN lectin resulting in low-level activation of upstream B-cell receptor signaling responses.

High-dose interleukin-2 (HD IL-2) was approved in the 1990s after demonstrating durable complete responses (CRs) in some patients with metastatic melanoma (mM) and metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Patients who achieve this level of disease control have also demonstrated improved survival compared with patients who progress, but limited data are available describing the long-term course. The aim of this study was to better characterize long-term survival following successful HD IL-2 treatment in patients with no subsequent systemic therapy.

Background: There are only a few reports evaluating the applicability of endothelial-damage markers analysis by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in kidney allograft samples. This study analyzed the expression of Caveolin-1 (Cav), von Willebrand factor (Vwf), and T-cadherin (Cad) in kidney biopsies and their association with antibody-mediated injury.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 114 cases with antibody-mediated changes (Banff, 2020) and 72 with interstitial fibrosis/tubular atrophy were selected.
