Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas (IPMN) was classified as a distinct entity from mucinous cystic neoplasm by the WHO in 1995. It represents a mucin-producing tumor that originates from the ductal epithelium and can evolve from slight dysplasia to invasive carcinoma. In addition, different aspects of tumor progression may be seen in the same lesion.

Flow Diversion for the Management of Posterior Circulation's Intracranial Aneurysms.

CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets

September 2024

Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, Hospital Bremen-Mitte/Bremen-Ost, Bremen, Germany.

The endovascular treatment of posterior circulation aneurysms, although challenging, has been well-established due to various factors that limit the surgical approach in most cases. Flow diversion has also been utilized in the treatment of such aneurysms, although its effectiveness and safety still require evaluation. Numerous studies have examined the outcomes and complication rates in patients treated with FD, resulting in varying findings.

Imaging standardisation in metastatic colorectal cancer: A joint EORTC-ESOI-ESGAR expert consensus recommendation.

Eur J Cancer

November 2022

Department of Radiology, University Hospital, LMU Munich, Munich, Germany; Imaging Group, European Organisation of Research and Treatment in Cancer (EORTC), Brussels, Belgium; Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer Group, European Organisation of Research and Treatment in Cancer (EORTC), Brussels, Belgium; European Society of Oncologic Imaging (ESOI), European Society of Radiology, Vienna, Austria. Electronic address:

Background: Treatment monitoring in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) relies on imaging to evaluate the tumour burden. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors provide a framework on reporting and interpretation of imaging findings yet offer no guidance on a standardised imaging protocol tailored to patients with mCRC. Imaging protocol heterogeneity remains a challenge for the reproducibility of conventional imaging end-points and is an obstacle for research on novel imaging end-points.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can be treated by local and regional methods of percutaneous interventional radiological techniques. Indications depend on tumor size, type and stage, as well as patient's condition, liver function and co-morbidities. According to international classification systems such as Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) classification, very early, early or intermediate staged tumors can be treated either with ablative methods or with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), depending on tumor characteristics.

Introduction: Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is a well-established and effective therapeutic option for patients that meet certain criteria. However, this modality is not well studied in patients with pre-existing disability. The aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of mechanical thrombectomy in patients with acute onset ischemic stroke and pre-stroke dependency (PSD) in regard to their clinical outcome and mortality.

Radiology

July 2022

From the 1st Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Areteion Hospital, 76 Vas. Sophias Ave, 11528 Athens, Greece (V.K., S.F., C.B., L.A.M.); Department of Clinical Therapeutics, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Alexandra Hospital, Athens, Greece (E.T., M.G., I.N.S., E.K., M.A.D.); Computational Clinical Imaging Group, Center for the Unknown, Champalimaud Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal (N.P., J.S., J.M.M.); and Department of Medical Physics, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece (I.S.).

Background An imaging-based predictor of response could provide prognostic information early during treatment course in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Purpose To investigate if very early changes in bone marrow relative fat fraction (rFF) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) histogram metrics, occurring after one cycle of induction therapy in participants with newly diagnosed MM, could help predict overall best response status. Materials and Methods This prospective study included participants with MM who were enrolled between August 2014 and December 2017.

Perspectives on the urological care in Parkinson's disease patients.

Arch Ital Urol Androl

March 2022

Department of Urology, Cochin Hospital, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, Paris Descartes University, Paris.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is recognized as the most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer's disease. Lower urinary tract symptoms are common in patients with PD, either storage symptoms (overactive bladder symptoms or OAB) or voiding symptoms. The most important diagnostic clues for urinary disturbances are provided by the patient's medical history.

Atypical small acinar proliferation is a histopathological diagnosis of unspecified importance in prostate needle-biopsy reports, suggestive but not definitive for cancer. The terminology corresponds to some uncertainty in the biopsy report, as the finding might represent an underlying non-cancerous pathology mimicking cancer or an under-sampled prostate cancer site. Therefore, traditional practice favors an immediate repeat biopsy.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a useful complementary imaging tool for the diagnosis and characterization of renal masses, as it provides both morphologic and functional information. A core MRI protocol for renal imaging should include a T1-weighted sequence with in- and opposed-phase images (or, alternatively with DIXON technique), T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted images as well as a dynamic contrast-enhanced sequence with subtraction images, followed by a delayed post-contrast T1-weighted sequence. The main advantages of MRI over computed tomography include increased sensitivity for contrast enhancement, less sensitivity for detection of calcifications, absence of pseudoenhancement, and lack of radiation exposure.
