Clinical, microbiologic, and treatment outcomes of dematiaceous fungal keratitis - A retrospective study.

Purpose: Dematiaceous fungi, the third most common causative organism of fungal keratitis, constitute 3.5% to 43.5% of fungal keratitis worldwide.

Primary eyecare in paediatrics population (PREPP) - II study: Study of satisfaction of services and barrier for not reporting to the base hospital on referral among pediatric patients treated in six major vision centers of a tertiary eye care facility in Southern India.

Purpose: This study was conducted in continuation of Primary Eyecare in Paediatrics Population (PREPP-I) and was aimed to assess parents' satisfaction with pediatric-eye-care services across six vision centers (VCs) of a tertiary eye hospital in Southern India. The barriers among the parents for not attending the base hospital (BH) when referred from these VCs were also evaluated.

Methods: A standard-validated-satisfaction questionnaire (VSQ) was used to assess patient satisfaction.

Unilateral retinitis pigmentosa associated with cystoid macular oedema.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the most common inherited cause of blindness in the developed world, characterized by night blindness, reduced central vision and constricted visual field; however, unilateral RP is extremely rare. Macular complications such as cystoid macular oedema (CME), macular holes and vitreoretinal interface alterations, such as epiretinal membranes, have been reported in advanced stages. We describe a patient with unilateral RP presenting with CME, a rare occurrence.

Quantification of vascular changes in macular telangiectasia type 2 with AngioTool software.

Purpose: To compare AngioTool (AT) vascular parameters (VP) between MacTel2 eyes and normal eyes. Secondary outcome measures were to correlate VP with BCVA and to analyze VP between various grades of Simple MacTel Classification.

Yoked prisms and cerebral visual impairment: Enhancing the experience of ambient vision.

Background: Perceptual visual impairment leads to impaired functional vision in children with cerebral visual impairment. Yoked prisms have been used in behavioral vision therapy for children with autism (dysfunctional dorsal visual processing pathway) and in neurorehabilitation to treat visual neglect, hemianopia, and abnormal egocentric localization. In particular, they are employed for treating perceptual visual problems.

A practical model for effective eye care delivery in Southeast Asian rural communities: A proposal built based on experts' recommendations.

Purpose: To evaluate rural community-based eye care models from the perspective of community ophthalmology experts and suggest sustainable technological solutions for enhancing rural eye care delivery.

Methods: A semi-structured descriptive survey, using close-ended and open-ended questions, was administered to the experts in community ophthalmology sourced through purposive sampling. The survey was self-administered and was facilitated through online platforms or in-person meetings.

The Better Operative Outcomes Software Tool (BOOST) Prospective Study: Improving the Quality of Cataract Surgery Outcomes in Low-Resource Settings.

Purpose: Post-operative vision impairment is common among patients who have undergone cataract surgery in low-resource settings, impacting quality of clinical outcomes and patient experience. This prospective, multisite, single-armed, pragmatic validation study aimed to assess whether receiving tailored recommendations via the free Better Operative Outcomes Software Tool (BOOST) app improved surgical outcomes, as quantified by post-operative unaided distance visual acuity (UVA) measured 1-3 days after surgery.

Methods: During the baseline data collection round, surgeons in low and middle-income countries recorded clinical characteristics of 60 consecutive cataract cases in BOOST.

Age-related reduction in the functional properties of adult stem cells located in the peripheral region of human retinal pigment epithelium.

Purpose: Adult stem cells (SCs) with self-renewal and multilineage potential have been reported upon culturing human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. The current study aimed to identify the location of SCs in human RPE and to elucidate the age-related changes.

Methods: Peripheral, equatorial, and central RPE cells from donors of three age groups were analyzed for their sphere-forming, clonal, and label-retaining cell properties.

Immediate postoperative keratitis caused by species following standard CXL for keratoconus: A case report and literature review.

Purpose: To report the first case of Rhizopus sp keratitis in a 15-year-old male patient who had undergone a conventional Epi-off CXL procedure for progressive keratoconus.

Methods: A 15-year-old male studying at school presented with defective vision in both eyes recently. He was diagnosed with progressive keratoconus in the right eye more than left eye.

Lactational optic neuritis - A case series with review of the literature.

Purpose: Optic neuritis is the most common optic neuropathy affecting adults, especially women. Lactational optic neuritis is a rare entity occurring during the postpartum period with a high chance of recurrence. Through this study, we evaluated the clinical profile and visual outcome of lactational optic neuritis.

Diagnosis of retinal damage using Resnet rescaling and support vector machine (Resnet-RS-SVM): a case study from an Indian hospital.

Purpose: This study aims to address the challenge of identifying retinal damage in medical applications through a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) approach. Data was collected from four prominent eye hospitals in India for analysis and model development.

Pseudoaneurysm of the internal carotid artery caused by skull base osteomyelitis (SBO) is a lethal condition seen in immunocompromised patients, predominantly those with diabetes mellitus. Cranial nerve involvement is a common complication and generally indicates a poor prognosis. We report the case of a 62-year-old diabetic patient who presented with isolated sixth cranial nerve palsy.
