Background And Objective: Tibiofibular syndesmotic injuries may cause degenerative changes, reduction in ankle function and compromising ankle stability. Different fixation techniques try to restore its functionality. Screw-fixation is the gold-standard.

Purpose: The study aimed to determine the influence of drug treatments (proton pump inhibitors [PPIs] combined with other drugs) on the false-positive (FP) rate in the fecal immunochemical test (FIT).
Methods: Patients undergoing colonoscopy in the setting of a CRC screening program due to a positive FIT result were included prospectively. Demographic data and drug intake of PPIs, antiplatelet therapy (APA), anticoagulants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were collected.

The purpose of this study is to understand the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with celiac disease (CD) and analyze its main determinants. A transversal descriptive study of 738 patients with celiac disease was carried out. A series of questionnaires were answered related to their HRQoL, adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD), and self-efficacy beliefs among other relevant variables.

Dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains a major issue and an important post-surgical complication. Impingement and subsequent dislocation are influenced by the design (head size) and position (anteversion and abduction angles) of the acetabulum and different movements of the patient, with external extension and internal flexion the most critical movements. The aim of this study is to develop a computational tool based on a three-dimensional (3D) parametric finite element (FE) model and an artificial neural network (ANN) to assist clinicians in identifying the optimal prosthesis design and position of the acetabular cup to reduce the probability of impingement and dislocation.

The main methodological novelty of this work is that simple sound variables of laughter are used as inputs, instead of electrophysiological signals or local field potentials (LFPs) or spoken language utterances, which are the usual protocols up-to-date. In the present study, involving 934 laughs from 30 patients and 20 controls, four different neural networks models were tested for sensitivity analysis, and were additionally trained for depression detection.

In whatever domain of life, from cells to organisms to societies, communicative exchanges underlie the formation and maintenance, and decay, of the emerging collective structures. It can be clearly seen in the human social world. The different classes of social bonds in a complex society revolve around, and are intimately related with, the communicative relationships that every individual entertains-essentially via face-to-face conversation.

Exploring the pertinence of a "sociotype" construct, established along the conceptual chain genotype-phenotype-sociotype, is the essential purpose of the present paper. Further, by following the sociotype's conceptual guidelines, a new psychometric indicator has been developed in order to gauge the level of social interaction around each individual-the sociotype questionnaire (SOCQ). A first version of this questionnaire has been elaborated by gathering data about the different classes of social bonds (family, friends, acquaintances, and work/study colleagues) in general population and about the dynamic update of these bonds via face-to-face conversation and other modes of interaction.

The best methods to manage tibial bone defects following total knee arthroplasty remain under debate. Different fixation systems exist to help surgeons reconstruct knee osseous bone loss (such as tantalum cones, cement, modular metal augments, autografts, allografts and porous metaphyseal sleeves) However, the effects of the various solutions on the long-term outcome remain unknown. In the present work, a bone remodeling mathematical model was used to predict bone remodeling after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) revision.

The brain displays both the anatomical features of a vast amount of interconnected topological mappings as well as the functional features of a nonlinear, metastable system at the edge of chaos, equipped with a phase space where mental random walks tend towards lower energetic basins. Nevertheless, with the exception of some advanced neuro-anatomic descriptions and present-day connectomic research, very few studies have been addressing the topological path of a brain embedded or embodied in its external and internal environment. Herein, by using new formal tools derived from algebraic topology, we provide an account of the metastable brain, based on the neuro-scientific model of Operational Architectonics of brain-mind functioning.

Background: In the medical field, laughter has been studied for its beneficial effects on health and as a therapeutic method to prevent and treat major medical diseases. However, very few works, if any, have explored the predictive potential of laughter and its potential use as a diagnostic tool.
Method: We registered laughs of depressed patients (n=30) and healthy controls (n=20), in total 934 laughs (517 from patients and 417 from controls).
