Background: The double-stent retriever (SR) technique has been described as an effective rescue technique when single-SR fails to induce recanalization. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of first-line double-SR in patients with stroke undergoing thrombectomy.
Methods: This was a multicenter, randomized, controlled, blinded adjudicated primary outcome study.

Clinical phenotypes of COVID-19, associated with mortality risk, have been identified in the general population. The present study assesses their applicability in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR) hospital-admitted by COVID-19. In a cohort of 488 SOTR, nonvaccinated (n = 394) and vaccinated (n = 94) against SARS-CoV-2, we evaluated 16 demographic, clinical, analytical, and radiological variables to identify the clinical phenotypes A, B, and C.

Pancreatic cancer is highly lethal and has limited treatment options available. Our team had previously developed ZZW-115, a promising drug candidate that targets the nuclear protein 1 (NUPR1), which is involved in pancreatic cancer development and progression. However, clinical translation of ZZW-115 was hindered due to potential cardiotoxicity caused by its interaction with the human Ether-à-go-go-Related Gene (hERG) potassium channel.

Introduction: Nephronophthisis 12 is a rare condition and only two cases have been reported to associate with retinopathy. Herein we present the third case in scientific literature, and the first with vision-quality exams.
Clinical Case: The case was a 28-year-old male with the mutations c.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neurodegenerative disease characterized by poor prognosis. Currently, screening and diagnostic methods for ALS remain challenging, often leading to diagnosis at an advanced stage of the disease. This delay hinders the timely initiation of therapy, negatively impacting patient well-being.

Background: Although there is a biological basis for it, there is scarce evidence on the effect of heparin in ameliorating placental insufficiency and maximizing gestational age at delivery among fetal growth restriction (FGR) pregnancies.
Objective: To explore the effectiveness of treatment using low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) at a prophylactic dose started at the time of diagnosis in prolonging gestation in pregnancies with early-onset fetal growth restriction (FGR).
Study Design: This was a phase III, multicenter, triple-blind, parallel-arm randomized clinical trial conducted in two university hospitals in Spain.

The prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) such as Alzheimer's (AD), Parkinson's (PD), Essential tremor (ET), and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is increasing alongside the aging population. Recent studies suggest that these disorders can be identified through retinal imaging, allowing for early detection and monitoring via Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans. This study is at the forefront of research, pioneering the application of multi-view OCT and 3D information to the neurological diseases domain.

Objectives: To compare visual outcomes for low vision eyes (LVE) (<35 letters LogMAR or <20/200 Snellen) versus non-low vision eyes (NLVE) (>35 letters LogMAR or >20/200 Snellen) at the time of the first injection in a clinical practice setting.
Methods: Subgroup analysis of a multicenter national database of treatment- naïve eyes neovascular age related macular degeneration (nAMD) treated with anti-VEGF intravitreal injections divided into LVE and NLVE. Demographics, visual acuity (VA) at baseline and subsequent timepoints (12, 24, and 36 months), number of injections and visits data were collected using a validated web-based tool (Fight Retinal Blindness!).

Addressing current challenges in solid tumor research requires advanced in vitro three-dimensional (3D) cellular models that replicate the inherently 3D architecture and microenvironment of tumor tissue, including the extracellular matrix (ECM). However, tumor cells exert mechanical forces that can disrupt the physical integrity of the matrix in long-term 3D culture. Therefore, it is necessary to find the optimal balance between cellular forces and the preservation of matrix integrity.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the estimations of wavefront analyzers using Hartmann-Shack technology to measure optical aberrations when the pupil size is smaller than the evaluated pupil area.
Methods: Patients implanted with the monofocal ZCB00 intraocular lens (Johnson and Johnson) were examined with the KR-1W Wavefront Analyzer (Topcon) without pharmacological mydriasis and with it afterward. Optical aberrations were analyzed considering a 4-mm pupil and a 6-mm pupil for both examinations.

Background: Mediastinal lymph node staging is a key element in the diagnosis of lung cancer. The combination of computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) has improved staging but some circumstances are known to influence their negative predictive value. The objective of this study was to assess the impact on survival of avoiding invasive mediastinal staging in surgical lung cancer patients with negative mediastinum in CT and PET and intermediate risk of unexpected pN2.

Clostridioides (formerly Clostridium) difficile is a leading cause of infectious diarrhea associated with antibiotic therapy. The ability of this anaerobic pathogen to acquire enough iron to proliferate under iron limitation conditions imposed by the host largely determines its pathogenicity. However, since high intracellular iron catalyzes formation of deleterious reactive hydroxyl radicals, iron uptake is tightly regulated at the transcriptional level by the ferric uptake regulator Fur.

The timing of trauma exposure is a risk factor for the development of psychopathology in adulthood. We aim to assess the presence of adverse life events (ALEs) before age 13 in patients with eating disorders (ED). Specifically, we examined the relationship between exposure to interpersonal trauma before the age of 13 and body image distortion (BID), impulsivity, and perfectionism.

Eptinezumab, a monoclonal antibody that targets calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), was recently approved in Europe for the prophylactic treatment of migraine in adults who have at least four migraine days a month. Eptinezumab is administered by intravenous infusion every 12 weeks. During recent months, a considerable amount of evidence from eptinezumab trials has been published.

Intermediate CAG expansions in the gene ataxin-2 () are a known risk factor for ALS, but little is known about their role in FTD risk. Moreover, their contribution to the risk and phenotype of patients might vary in populations with different genetic backgrounds. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship of intermediate CAG expansions in with the risk and phenotype of ALS and FTD in the Spanish population.

Although color vision deficiencies are very prevalent, there are no ideal methods for assessing color vision in all environments. We compared a new digital and automated method that quantifies color perception for the three protan, deutan, and tritan axes with two of the most commonly used color tests in daily practice: the Ishihara 38 plates test and the Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue test. One hundred patients underwent a triple examination composed of the new DIVE Color Test, the Ishihara test, and the Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue test.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive lethal malignancy that accounts for more than 90% of pancreatic cancer diagnoses. Our research is focused on the physico-chemical properties of the tumour microenvironment (TME), including its tumoural extracellular matrix (tECM), as they may have an important impact on the success of cancer therapies. PDAC xenografts and their decellularized tECM offer a great material source for research in terms of biomimicry with the original human tumour.
