Platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRβ) belongs to the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) protein family and is implicated in several disorders such as hematopoietic, glial, and soft-tissue cancer, non-cancerous disorders, including skeletal defects, brain calcification, and vascular anomalies. The research on small molecule inhibitors targeting PDGFRβ in cancer treatment has seen promising developments, but significant gaps remain. PDGFRβ, receptor tyrosine kinase, is overexpressed in various cancers and plays an important role in tumor progression, making it a potential therapeutic target.

  • The study aimed to create and validate an Arabic version of the Pre-Sleep Arousal Scale (PSAS) to measure mental and physical arousal before sleep among Arabic-speaking individuals.
  • In a survey of 438 participants, the Arabic PSAS displayed strong psychometric properties, including high internal consistency and reliability, and maintained the original two-factor structure of cognitive and somatic arousal.
  • Results showed significant differences in pre-sleep arousal levels between individuals with insomnia symptoms and those without, indicating that the Arabic PSAS is a useful tool for assessing sleep-related issues in this population.

Department of Molecular Medicine and Al-Jawhara Centre for Molecular Medicine, Genetics, and Inherited Disorders, College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Arabian Gulf University, Manama, Bahrain.

Introduction: Several studies have related shortened leukocyte telomere length (LTL) with age-related diseases and worse prognosis. Telomere length attrition has recently been associated with inflammatory diseases, including psoriasis (Ps). However, no study has demonstrated an association between LTL and the risk of disease severity and metabolic comorbidities in Arab patients with Ps.

  • Recent studies highlight a link between vitamin D levels and male reproductive health, particularly how deficiency can lead to infertility.
  • A systematic review of randomized controlled trials found that vitamin D supplementation increased total testosterone levels in men but had no significant impact on other reproductive hormone parameters like free testosterone and FSH.
  • The analysis suggests that while vitamin D may boost total testosterone, more well-structured studies are necessary to fully understand its effects on other hormones related to male fertility.*

Less than 7000 cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) persist in Africa. Although human-wildlife conflict, habitat degradation, and loss of prey are major threats to cheetah populations, illegal trade in live cubs for pets may have the most significant impact on populations in the Horn of Africa. We developed a novel, stepwise decision support tool to predict probable trafficking routes by leveraging the power of distinct modeling approaches.
