Corn, the primary ingredient in modern poultry feeds, contains high levels of ω-6 fatty acids but lacks sufficient ω-3 fatty acids, creating an imbalance. Maintaining a balance between ω-6 and ω-3 fatty acids in poultry diets is crucial due to their competition. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of incorporating different concentrations of an equal mix of soybean oil (SO) and flaxseed oil (FO) into quail diets on growth performance, carcass quality, and blood biochemistry.

Int J Nanomedicine

November 2024

Laboratory of Physiology, Physiopathology, and Biochemistry of Nutrition, Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences of Nature and Life, Earth Sciences and Universe (SNVSTU), University of Tlemcen, Tlemcen, 13000, Algeria.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetes mellitus causes significant organ damage due to oxidative stress, and traditional insulin therapies often do not fully address this issue.
  • This study tested a new oral nanoparticle-mediated insulin (nCOF/Insulin) in diabetic rats and compared its effectiveness to subcutaneous insulin.
  • Results showed nCOF/Insulin not only improved blood glucose control but also reduced oxidative stress and organ damage, suggesting it could enhance the quality of life for diabetes patients.

Epigenetic biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease: Diagnostic and prognostic relevance.

Ageing Res Rev

December 2024

Société Francophone de Nutrithérapie et de Nutrigénétique Appliquée, Villeurbanne, France; International Institute of Nutrition and Micronutrition Sciences, Saint-Étienne, France.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a leading cause of cognitive decline in the aging population, presenting a critical need for early diagnosis and effective prognostic tools. Epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs, have emerged as promising biomarkers for AD due to their roles in regulating gene expression and potential for reversibility. This review examines the current landscape of epigenetic biomarkers in AD, emphasizing their diagnostic and prognostic relevance.

October 2024

Research Center for Immunodeficiencies, Children's Medical Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

While inflammation is a known beneficial mechanism, pro-inflammatory nutrients can lead to chronic inflammation. The energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DII) has revealed positive associations with chronic inflammatory diseases. However, more evidence about the demographic risk factors for high E-DII is needed.
