Biofloc technology is an aquaculture production system that has gained popularity with tilapia production. Probiotics provide benefits for the host and/or aquatic environments by both regulating and modulating microbial communities and their metabolites. When a probiotic feed is combined with a biofloc system, the production amount may be improved through better fish growth, disease resistance, and/or improved water quality by reducing organic matter and stabilizing metrics such as pH and components of the nitrogen cycle.

This study investigates the combined toxicity of microplastics (MPs) and florfenicol (FLO) on biotransformation enzymes and oxidative stress biomarkers in the liver and kidney of yellowfin seabream (Acanthopagrus latus). Fish were fed 15 mg kg of FLO and 100 or 500 mg kg of MPs for 10 days. Biomarkers, including ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase, glutathione-S-transferase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, malondialdehyde (MDA), and protein carbonylation (PC), were measured in both organs at 1, 7, and 14 days post-exposure.

How phenotypic diversity originates and persists within populations are classic puzzles in evolutionary biology. While balanced polymorphisms segregate within many species, it remains rare for both the genetic basis and the selective forces to be known, leading to an incomplete understanding of many classes of traits under balancing selection. Arctic Grayling are Holarctically distributed, with a single native population in the conterminous United States occurring in the Big Hole River, Montana, where water temperatures can fluctuate throughout the year from 8 to 18 °C. A gradual increase in mean water temperature has been reported in this river over the past 20 years due to riparian habitat changes and climate change effects. We hypothesized that exposing Arctic Grayling to higher temperatures would result in lower survival, decreased growth, and increased stress responses.

The corresponding O-polysaccharides (O-PS) of these strains are formed by identical trisaccharide repeats composed of l-Rhamnose (l-Rha), 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-l-fucose (l-FucNAc) and 2-acetamido-4-R-2,4-dideoxy-d-quinovose (d-Qui2NAc4NR) where R represents a dihydroxyhexanamido moiety. The O-PS loci of these strains are also identical except for the gene (wzy1 or wzy2) that encodes the polysaccharide polymerase.

Improving feed utilization efficiency is a challenge in aquaculture. Therefore, we developed an indirect benchmark to use in selecting trout for improved efficiency of feed utilization on plant protein (soy)-based diets, with the long-term goal of reducing the cost of commercial trout production. We used a four-part integrative approach to identify feed efficient individuals among 1595 fish coming from 12 genetically selected families by establishing the phenotypic relationship between feed conversion ratio (FCR) and body weight variations using compensatory feeding regimes.
