Graves' disease (GD) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by activation of the TSH receptor by stimulatory autoantibodies (TSH Receptor Antibodies, or TRAbs), leading to unregulated thyroid hormone production. Diagnosis is largely based on the typical clinical picture and laboratory thyroid panel. Establishment of elevated serum levels of TRAbs by competitive binding assay or cell-binding assay has its unique role in diagnosis and management of GD, especially in the differential diagnosis, therapy selection, prognostication, evaluation of thyroid function during pregnancy, peri-conceptional and neonatal thyroid workup, and in certain special situation.

Transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation (TPVI) is the standard of care in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) presenting with right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) dysfunction. However, the feasibility of TPVI is limited by the high cost and nonavailability of larger-sized valves for dilated native RVOT of rTOF patients. We report the first successful TPVI with a custom-made 35 mm balloon-expandable valve (Myval™) in a 30-year-old rTOF patient with severe pulmonary regurgitation and RV dysfunction.

Department of Intensive Care Medicine, Elisabeth-Tweesteden Hospital, Tilburg, the Netherlands; Department of Surgery, Marien Hospital Herne, University Hospital of Ruhr University Bochum, Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Electronic address:

Bariatric surgery (BS) has demonstrated cardiovascular benefits in patients and was previously proven to be associated with an increased natriuretic peptide level without cardiac dysfunction. However, new studies have emerged, which require us to re-examine the relationship and extent of the correlation between BS, weight loss, and cardiac natriuretic peptide levels. A systematic search was conducted.

Purpose: Early gestational diabetes mellitus (eGDM) refers to elevated blood glucose levels not meeting the criteria for overt diabetes before 20 weeks gestation. Observational studies link eGDM to adverse outcomes, but randomized controlled trial (RCT) evidence on early intervention benefits remains inconclusive. To address this, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis (SRM) of RCTs on this subject.

India has a high burden of hypertension (HTN), which is often poorly controlled, leading to hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD). In the management of HTN, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) assume prime importance, being first-line agents for most patient subgroups. Olmesartan is a highly efficacious ARB that demonstrates sustained blood pressure (BP) reduction over 24 hours.

Introduction: It is rare to encounter a patient with severe valgus deformity of the greater trochanter with severe osteoarthritis of the hip joint. The treatment, that is total hip arthroplasty (THA) in such a case presents with a surgical challenge in proper placement of the femoral stem. Traditionally, an osteotomy procedure to correct the femoral deformity was warranted followed by THA.

  • The glucagon receptor antagonist volagidemab is a novel monoclonal antibody that helps manage type-1 diabetes (T1D) by lowering insulin needs and reducing risks like diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • A systematic review of three randomized controlled trials (98 patients) found that volagidemab significantly decreased the total daily dose of insulin and average blood glucose levels compared to a placebo.
  • Additionally, while it increased the time patients spent within the target blood glucose range, there was no significant change in the occurrence of adverse events or hypoglycemia when compared to the placebo group.

This study investigates the factors contributing to the recurrence of severe genetic conditions in multiple children of the same couple, focusing on a cohort of 26 families who had more than one child affected by the same genetic disorder. Conducted at a genetic clinic in India, the study employed a qualitative methodology guided by COREQ guidelines, using semi-structured interviews to explore the interplay of individual beliefs, healthcare provider practices, and systemic healthcare inefficiencies. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using a combination of content analysis and grounded theory, which allowed for the identification of recurrent themes and emerging ideas.

  • Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is prevalent among women over 50, with sacrocolpopexy being a common surgical treatment, though it can lead to complications like bowel dysfunction and urinary incontinence.
  • This study compares the outcomes of robotic sacrocolpopexy and ileopectopexy, analyzing data from 35 patients who underwent these procedures between 2021 and 2023.
  • Results indicated that ileopectopexy had no complications compared to sacrocolpopexy, which had some bowel issues, suggesting that ileopectopexy could be a safer alternative, although further research is necessary to confirm these results.
