Purpose: Biliary tract cancers (BTCs) are usually diagnosed in advanced stages, where treatment options are either palliative chemotherapy and/or best supportive care. The breakthrough results of the TOPAZ-1 trial demonstrated a 24% decrease in risk of death at 2 years with the addition of durvalumab to chemotherapy.

Materials And Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective cohort study conducted across 14 institutions in India.

Purpose: To describe the clinical presentation and treatment outcomes of patients undergoing Ruthenium-106 (Ru) plaque brachytherapy as salvage treatment for retinoblastoma (RB) following intravenous chemotherapy (IVC).

Methods: Retrospective chart review of 44 eyes of 42 patients. The indications for plaque brachytherapy included solid tumor recurrence (n=20; 45%), solid tumor residual (n=16; 36%), new subretinal seeds (n=5; 12%), and new solid tumor (n=3; 7%).

Objectives: Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare disorder of sexual differentiation resulting from aberrations in the Mullerian inhibiting factor (MIF) pathway, with consequent failure of regression of fetal Mullerian duct. The concomitant association of undescended testis increases the likelihood of developing testicular tumors in these patients. Due to its rarity, clinic-pathologic and treatment outcome data on testicular cancer in PMDS is sparse.

Background: Post-operative lymphorrhea is a well-known complication of inguinal lymph node dissection. However, the interventions to reduce the duration of drain have not been sufficiently elaborated.

Objectives: We evaluated the potential role of intra-operative mapping of lymphatic leakage with peri-incisional methylene blue injection and clipping of lymphatics after inguinal block dissection in reducing postoperative lymphorrhea.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on COVID-19-associated rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM) in India, examining patient demographics, risk factors, symptoms, and management outcomes during the pandemic's second wave.
  • Key findings revealed that 78% of patients had diabetes and a majority required oxygen support; most cases showed ROCM symptoms within 10-15 days post-COVID diagnosis.
  • Final outcomes indicated a 14% mortality rate, significantly reduced through surgical interventions, highlighting the role of corticosteroids and diabetes as major contributors to ROCM development.

Background: In India, where the annual incidence of cancer is projected to reach 1.7 million by 2020, the need for clinical research to establish the most effective, resource-guided, and evidence-based care is paramount. In this study, we sought to better understand the research training needs of radiation oncologists in India.

Background: Head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common cancers that contribute to 20%-40% of all cancer incidences in India. Indian patients with HNSCC are mostly associated with tobacco usage and may have different genetic alterations compared with Western patients who are mostly associated with human papillomavirus infection. Polymorphisms in DNA repair genes are correlated to individuals' susceptibility and progression of cancer.

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the dosimetric effects of rotational uncertainties in patient positioning on target coverage in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) of multiple brain metastases using single isocenter volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT).

Materials And Methods: Ten SRS cases with multiple brain metastases (2-8) planned with single isocenter non-coplanar VMAT technique were investigated in this study. Pitch, yaw and roll displacements of 1, 3 and 5° were simulated about isocenter along each axes and nine plans were obtained for each case.

Background: Lipomatous meningiomas are a rare variety of meningioma, in which fat storage occurs in adipocytes and lipoblasts are found within the tumor. World Health Organization grade II atypical meningiomas with lipometaplasia and extensive hyperostosis of calvarium is a rare type with a good prognosis after complete removal.

Case Description: Here we report a case of intracranial atypical meningioma with lipometaplasia and disproportionately large hyperostosis of overlying calvarium in a 40-year-old man.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) typically presents at an advanced stage and is associated with a poor oncological outcome. The median survival for metastatic ICC is less than 1 year with standard chemotherapy. ICC is associated with distinct oncogenic drivers including (isocitrate dehydrogenase), (human epidermal growth factor 2), and (v-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B), which may benefit from matching targeted therapies.

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of Accessory Parotid Gland: A Case Report.

J Oral Maxillofac Surg

May 2016

Registrar, Department of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad, India.

The accessory parotid gland is salivary gland tissue separated from the main gland at a variable distance. This gland is histologically similar to the main gland, but has a higher incidence of malignant neoplasms than the main gland. Regarding the various malignant neoplasms, studies have shown higher incidences of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, with less than 2% being adenoid cystic carcinoma.

With increasing numbers of patients with unresectable locoregionally advanced (LA) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) receiving cetuximab/radiotherapy (RT), several guidelines on the early detection and management of skin-related toxicities have been developed. Considering the existing management guidelines for these treatment-induced conditions, clinical applicability and standardization of grading methods has remained a cause of concern globally, particularly in Asian countries. In this study, we attempted to collate the literature and clinical experience across Asian countries to compile a practical and implementable set of recommendations for Asian oncologists to manage skin- and mucosa-related toxicities arising from different types of radiation, with or without the addition of cetuximab or chemotherapy.

Cutaneous metastases are the result of complex interaction between the tumor cells ("seed") and the host environment ("soil"). Metastases to the skin can be an early sign of internal malignancy or represent recurrence of the primary tumor and portends a poorer prognosis.
