JPRAS Open

September 2020

Nagaoka Red Cross Hospital, Department of Plastic Surgery, Senshu-2 297-1, Nagaoka City, Niigata, 9402085, Japan.

Primary mucinous carcinoma of the skin (PMCS) is a rare malignant neoplasm of the sweat glands that has an incidence of 1 per 150,000 population. Because of the lack of typical characteristics, it is often misdiagnosed as an epidermoid cyst, pilomatrixoma, or chalazion before resection, with subsequent enucleation performed unintentionally. We present a case of a 51-year-old patient with PMCS in the upper eyelid that was successfully treated at our hospital.

Objectives: Non-motor symptoms (NMSs) negatively impact the health-related quality of life (HrQOL) of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The Movement Disorder Society-Sponsored Revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) is a comprehensive scale for evaluating PD. It remains unclear whether the NMSs evaluated with MDS-UPDRS are predictive of HrQOL.

Most patients with non-hemorrhagic and non-ischemic vertebral artery dissections(VADs)are likely to recover with good outcomes. In contrast, some cases of uneventful outcomes have also been reported. Therefore, whether surgical treatment or prolonged follow-up should be utilized for each case remains controversial.

Background: Appropriate management of the endotracheal tube (ETT) insertion depth is important. The depth calculated using Tochen's formula is overestimated in extremely-low- birthweight infants, particularly those with a birthweight <750 g. Gestational age has been shown to be particularly useful in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program, 7th edition.

Purpose: Screening programs using fecal occult blood testing help reduce mortality from colorectal cancer (CRC). Colonoscopy and colonoscopy combined with fecal occult blood testing are considered alternatives with higher sensitivity than fecal tests; however, to our knowledge, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) providing such evidence have not been reported. Therefore, this study aimed to compare screening using the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) combined with colonoscopy and FIT alone to evaluate the efficacy of colonoscopy screening in reducing CRC mortality.
