BACKGROUND   : Anastomotic leakage at the distal anastomotic site after surgery for acute type A aortic dissection (AAD) occasionally leads to malperfusion or false lumen dilatation in the remnant dissected aorta. Open surgery remains the optimal therapy; however, subsequent surgery with re-sternotomy is excessively invasive in elderly and frail patients. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of an 81-year-old woman who was treated with chimney thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for anastomotic leakage after ascending aortic replacement for AAD.

Objectives: Methotrexate (MTX) is associated with extensive side effects, including myelosuppression, interstitial pneumonia, and infection. It is, therefore, critical to establish whether its administration is required after achieving remission with tocilizumab (TCZ) and MTX combination therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, the aim of this multicenter, observational, cohort study was to evaluate the feasibility of MTX discontinuation for the safety of these patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the use of a new imaging technique called deep learning-based reconstruction (DLR) to enhance MRI scans for better identification of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions.
  • Researchers compared the effectiveness of a high-resolution 1 mm-slice MRI (with DLR) to conventional 5 mm-slice MRI in detecting MS lesions in 42 patients.
  • Results showed that the 1 mm T2-weighted MRI with DLR detected significantly more lesions than the standard method, especially in the brain stem, suggesting that this technique could be valuable in clinical practice.

Purpose: We developed algorithms to identify patients with newly diagnosed cancer from a Japanese claims database to identify the patients with newly diagnosed cancer of the sample population, which were compared with the nationwide cancer incidence in Japan to assess the validity of the novel algorithms.

Methods: We developed two algorithms to identify patients with stomach, lung, colorectal, breast, and cervical cancers: diagnosis only (algorithm 1), and combining diagnosis, treatments, and medicines (algorithm 2). Patients with newly diagnosed cancer were identified from an anonymized commercial claims database (JMDC Claims Database) in 2017 with two inclusions/exclusion criteria: selecting all patients with cancer (extract 1) and excluding patients who had received cancer treatments in 2015 or 2016 (extract 2).

Immature teratomas are a subset of ovarian teratomas, and the pathogenic relationship between mature and immature ovarian teratomas is unclear. Mature ovarian teratomas are parthenogenetic tumors that arise from a single oocyte/ovum, whereas the origin of immature ovarian teratomas has not been extensively investigated. Since parthenogenetic tumors contain only maternal genomes, genome imprinting in these tumors usually follows a maternal pattern.
