Background: There is a high incidence of intraventricular hemorrhage in extremely low-birthweight (ELBW) infants of low gestational age with high-grade fluctuations in the perfusion waveform of the internal cerebral vein. This study investigated changes in the hemodynamic status of ELBW infants during initial strong fluctuations in the perfusion waveform of the internal cerebral vein.
Methods: We evaluated the perfusion waveform of the internal cerebral vein in 192 ELBW infants from birth, every 8 h for a total of 120 h.

Purpose: To investigate the impact of the risk group disagreement between the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and the International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium (IMDC) models on prognosis.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 176 patients with metastatic renal-cell carcinoma who were treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors as first-line therapy in 5 hospitals between October 2008 and August 2018. The risk group classification differences between the MSKCC and the IMDC models were evaluated using criteria of agreement (identical risk group in both the MSKCC and IMDC models) and disagreement (not identical risk group in both the MSKCC and IMDC models).

Purpose: We determine whether the nadir prostate-specific antigen level (PSA nadir) and time to nadir (TTN) during initial androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) are prognostic factors in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients.
Methods: We reviewed the Michinoku Japan Urological Cancer Study Group database, including 321 mCRPC patients. Optimal cutoff values for PSA nadir and TTN on survival were calculated with the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

Globular glial tauopathy (GGT) is a group of 4-repeat tauopathies characterized by widespread globular glial inclusions (GGIs). GGT is now classified into three subtypes based on the distribution and morphology of the GGIs. We report an autopsy case of GGT in an 85-year-old woman who presented with semantic dementia, a rare phenotype in GGT.

ETV6-RUNX1-positive B precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) is a common subtype of pediatric B-ALL that has shown excellent outcomes in contemporary clinical trials for pediatric B-ALL. Examinations of the possibility of reducing therapeutic intensity may thus be explored. This prospective study examined outcomes in 205 pediatric patients with ETV6-RUNX1-positive B-ALL uniformly treated following the Japan Association of Childhood Leukemia Study Group (JACLS) ALL-02 protocol.

Aims/introduction: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of mirogabalin, a novel, potent, selective ligand of the α δ subunit of voltage-dependent Ca channels, for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP).
Materials And Methods: During this double-blind, multisite, placebo-controlled phase III study, Asian patients aged ≥20 years with type 1 or 2 diabetes and DPNP were randomized 2:1:1:1 to a placebo, mirogabalin 15, 20 or 30 mg/day for up to 14 weeks, with a 1- to 2-week titration (NCT02318706). The primary endpoint was the change from baseline in average daily pain score (ADPS) at week 14, defined as a weekly average of daily pain (0 = no pain to 10 = worst possible pain, for the past 24 h).

High-dose chemotherapy (HDT) with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) has been shown to improve the prognosis of patients with central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma. We queried the Japan Society for Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Registry for 2006 to 2015 to analyze the outcomes of 102 patients with primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) who underwent first HDT/ASCT. The median patient age was 54 years (range, 20 to 74 years), and 65 patients were treated in an upfront setting.

Zonisamide is a relatively recent drug for Parkinson's disease. Multiple hypotheses have been proposed to explain the antiparkinsonian effects of zonisamide. However, it is still unclear whether the effect of zonisamide is mainly due to dopaminergic modification in the striatum, or if zonisamide works through nondopaminergic pathways.

Introduction: Although older patients with status epilepticus (SE) have a high mortality rate and poor outcome, it is difficult to perform emergent electroencephalography (EEG) to diagnose SE in community hospitals. Arterial spin labeling (ASL) is a non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that can rapidly assess cerebral blood flow (CBF). Further, ASL can detect increased CBF in the ictal period.

Primary central nervous system vasculitis (PCNSV) is an uncommon vasculitis restricted to the small- and medium-sized vessels in the brain and spinal cord. Previously, only 9 cases have been reported that initially manifested as an isolated spinal cord lesion with subsequent brain involvement, where the longest interval from the onset to brain involvement was 1 year and 11 months. We herein report the case of an isolated spinal cord lesion with subsequent brain involvement appearing seven years and five months later.

Background: Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) are rare disorders associated with cancer and are believed to be immune mediated. Patients with autonomic PNS suffer from variable combinations of parasympathetic and sympathetic failure. Autonomic PNS are usually associated with other PNS, such as encephalomyelitis and sensory neuropathy; however, autonomic symptoms may rarely manifest as PNS symptoms.

Neurosarcoidosis is difficult to diagnose, because definite diagnosis requires detailed histology of the central nervous system. Three-dimensional contrast-enhanced fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (CE-FLAIR) is more useful for detecting leptomeningeal lesions compared with 3D CE-T1 weighted imaging. However, the clinical diagnostic utility of 3D CE-FLAIR for neurosarcoidosis is unclear.
