Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is an arterial disease characterized by fibrous arterial wall thickening and irregular proliferation and degeneration of smooth muscle cells in muscular arteries. Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are rare, with only a few reported cases. A characteristic feature of AAA is an aneurysm protruding forward near the terminal aorta with stenosis.

Background: Hypermagnesemia is a rare complication, leading to fatal cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. We present severe hypermagnesemia developed in a patient with a rectal stenosis after pretreatment with oral magnesium citrate for rectosigmoid surgery.
Case Presentation: A 78-year-old woman demonstrated consciousness disturbance, muscle weakness, and respiratory depression requiring tracheal intubation after preparation with oral magnesium for rectosigmoid surgery.

Rationale: Mirror syndrome is a rare pregnancy condition in which maternal edema is associated with fetal hydrops. Because of its rarity and overlapping symptoms, this condition is often misdiagnosed as another pregnancy complication.
Patient Concerns: A 28-year-old pregnant Japanese woman presented with sudden 7.

Uric acid (UA) is a final product of purine metabolism and has neuroprotective effects. It has not been established whether serum UA levels are associated with depressive disorder. Thus, we investigated whether serum UA levels are associated with depressive symptoms in a Japanese general population.

Introduction: Oligometastasis and oligoprogression (OP) has not been adequately defined in extensive-stage SCLC (ES-SCLC) and may be a good indication for adding local treatment. Therefore, this multicenter study aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of oligometastasis and OP in ES-SCLC.
Methods: We enrolled patients who received chemoimmunotherapy between September 2019 and June 2022.

Introduction Short-term levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) treatment using nasojejunal (NJ) tubes (NJ-LCIG test) is recommended for patients with advanced Parkinson's disease to ensure compatibility with this treatment system prior to permanent percutaneous endoscopic gastrojejunostomy. However, there have been no studies on NJ tube insertion by neurologists or on possible differences in treatment efficacy based on the NJ tube insertion method or tube tip position. We therefore investigated the effects of LCIG with NJ tube placement performed by a neurologist.

Background: This study aimed to examine the effects of psychogenic stress (PS) frequency on oxidative stress and organ development during growth and to gain fundamental insights into developmental processes during this period.
Methods: Four-week-old male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to a control and three PS groups according to PS frequencies. PS was induced using restraint and water immersion techniques once daily for 3 hr at a time for a period of 4 weeks.

Recently, there has been a significant increase in the utilization of self-expandable metallic stents (SEMSs) for treating malignant colorectal obstructions through colorectal stenting. The mechanical properties of SEMSs are usually considered to affect clinical outcomes of patients with malignant colorectal obstructions. : This single-arm, prospective, multicenter study of SEMS with a lower axial force and high axial force zero-border included 200 patients with malignant colorectal obstruction.

This single-arm multi-institutional prospective study aimed to evaluate the 10-year outcomes of sublobar resection for small-sized ground-glass opacity-dominant lung cancer. Among 73 patients prospectively enrolled from 13 institutions between November 2006 and April 2012, 53 ground-glass opacity-dominant lung cancer patients underwent sublobar resection with wedge resection as the first choice. The inclusion criteria were maximum tumor size of 8-20 mm; ≥ 80% ground-glass opacity ratio on high-resolution computed tomography; lower F-fluorodeoxyglucose accumulation than the mediastinum; intraoperative pathological diagnosis of adenocarcinoma in situ; and no cancer cells on intraoperative cut margins.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an in situ interprofessional simulation training conducted to improve readiness and preparedness for ECMO management of patients with COVID-19 at a non-high-volume ECMO centre.
Methods: Three emergency physicians, three clinical engineers and two nurses attended the 3-h simulation held at Hirosaki University Hospital in December 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to assess the trends in treatment selection for patients with de novo metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer in the era of upfront combination therapy.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective study included 595 patients treated with either upfront combination therapy (upfront novel hormonal therapies and taxane-based chemotherapy) or vintage therapy (androgen deprivation therapy with or without bicalutamide) between 2016 and 2021. High tumor burden metastatic disease was defined when a patient met the CHAARTED or LATITUDE criteria.

Pleomorphic adenomas occur primarily in the salivary glands, while the primary of the trachea is relatively rare. Depending on their location and size, they may elicit symptoms reminiscent of asthma and asphyxia. We performed a rigid bronchoscopic resection with a radiofrequency snare of a primary pleomorphic adenoma of the trachea with severe airway narrowing.

An enlarging ground-glass nodule (GGN) in the lungs closely resembles the characteristic appearance of a well differentiated lung adenocarcinoma or adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS). Herein, we present an unusual case characterized by clinical features suggestive of AIS but pathologically confirmed as exhibiting pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP)-like changes. Patients with enlarging pure GGNs warrant consideration for diagnostic and curative surgery.

Osteochondroma rarely occurs in the ribs; therefore, the treatment is not standardized. There are few studies of resection via complete thoracoscopic surgery (CTS), although video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery with mini-thoracotomy has been reported. Herein, we report a case of costal osteochondroma managed with CTS.

Introduction: There is no approved effective drug for diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) in China. Gabapentinoids including mirogabalin have shown promise, although data in Chinese patients are scarce.
Methods: This phase 3, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial investigated the efficacy and safety of mirogabalin for treating DPNP in China.

Objectives: Immune-related adverse events (irAEs) are known to be associated with clinical efficacy and better prognoses in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors. In particular, endocrine irAE (e-irAE) is related to better prognoses. Since the incidence of irAEs increase as treatment duration becomes longer, we should consider lead-time bias not to overvalue the result.

Introduction: A feature of the management of extremely preterm infants in Japan is proactive circulatory management using early routine echocardiography performed by neonatologists.
Methods: This study was a post hoc analysis of the Patent ductus arteriosus and Left Atrial Size Evaluation in preterm infants (PLASE) study, which is a prospective cohort study including preterm infants admitted to 34 tertiary neonatal intensive care units in Japan between October 2015 and December 2016. We described the details of the treatment strategy of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) based on early routine echocardiography.

Aim/introduction: This study aims to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of diabetic symmetric sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSPN) in patients with type 2 diabetes registered in the Japan Diabetes Complication and its Prevention Prospective (JDCP) study.
Materials And Methods: In the study, 6338 patients with diabetes who had been treated by diabetes specialists were registered in 2007-2009. Of these, patients with type 2 diabetes who could be evaluated for DSPN were analyzed using test, chi-square test, and logistic regression analyses.
