Extraction and Reimplantation of a Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator: Two Cases and a Review of the Literature.

For several years, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) have been the cornerstone for the prevention of sudden cardiac death. However, the weakness of traditional transvenous ICD systems lies in the intravascular lead, which is prone to issues such as conductor fracture, insulation abrasion, risk of dislodgement, and infection. With the new generation of subcutaneous defibrillators, these risks are far less common.

Clinical Characteristics and Therapeutic Management of Atopic Dermatitis in Elderly Patients Compared with Young Adult Patients: A Prospective Multicentre Study.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic inflammatory dermatitis in developed countries, and has a major impact on those affected. Little is known about AD in elderly patients. This prospective multicentre observational study described the clinical characteristics and burden of AD in elderly subjects ≥ 65 years, as well as the therapeutic options chosen for this population in routine care, and compared findings with those in young adults with AD < 30 years.

Health and Economic Impact of Different Long-Term Oxygen Therapeutic Strategies in Patients with Chronic Respiratory Failure: A French Nationwide Health Claims Database (SNDS) Study.

Introduction: Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) is reported to improve survival in patients with chronic respiratory failure. We aimed to describe effectiveness, burden, and cost of illness of patients treated with portable oxygen concentrators (POC) compared to other LTOT options.

Methods: This retrospective comparative analysis included adult patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency and failure (CRF) upon a first delivery of LTOT between 2014 and 2019 and followed until December 2020, based on the French national healthcare database SNDS.

Endoscopic-assisted repair of combined ventral hernias and diastasis recti: minimizing seroma incidence by quilting.

Background: To reduce the incidence of seromas, we have adapted the quilting procedure used in open abdominoplasty to the endoscopic-assisted repair of concomitant ventral hernia (VH) and diastasis recti (DR). The aim of this study was to describe the technique and assess its efficacy by comparing two groups of patients operated on with the same repair technique before and after introducing the quilting.

Methods: This retrospective study included data prospectively registered in the French Club Hernie database from 176 consecutive patients who underwent surgery for concomitant VH and DR via the double-layer suturing technique.

Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Iliofemoral Deep Venous Thrombosis Through a Jugular Approach with a Rotational Device.

Purpose: To report the effectiveness of pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PCDT) in the management of acute iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis (DVT) via the jugular vein using a slow rotation and large-tip device (SRD) in a large cohort of patients.

Material And Methods: From 2011 to 2021, 277 patients (mean age 45 years, 59.2% women) were treated in 6 centres with PCDT for ilio-fémoral DVT.

Open IPOMs for medium/large incisional ventral hernia repairs in the French Hernia Registry: factors associated with their use and mesh-related outcomes.

Purpose: The use of open intra-peritoneal onlay mesh repairs (O-IPOMs) for treating medium/large incisional ventral hernias has come into question due to the development of minimally invasive and sublay procedures. This study aimed to identify factors that are associated with the use of O-IPOMs in France.

Methods: We analysed prospectively collected data from the French Hernia Registry on incisional ventral hernia repairs (IVHR) for hernias ≥ 4 cm in width.

Atrial Septal Defect Associated With Right Bundle Branch Block Masking Brugada Syndrome.

A type 1 Brugada electrocardiogram pattern may be masked by typical right bundle branch block aspect. We present 2 cases (male patients, aged 18 and 22 years) of associated ostium secundum atrial septal defect with a right bundle branch block aspect and symptomatic confirmed Brugada syndrome. Both patients underwent cardiac defibrillator implantation.

Intrathymic growing bronchogenic cyst mimicking thymoma: A case report.

Intrathymic bronchogenic cysts are extremely rare lesions, and the differential diagnosis with a banal thymic cyst or a solid tumor can be problematic. Thymic carcinomas arising within thymic cysts have also been reported. We report a case of radical thymectomy for a slowly growing small thymic cyst.

Single-agent gemcitabine in patients with advanced, pre-treated angiosarcoma: A multicenter, retrospective study.

Gemcitabine has shown clinical activity against angiosarcoma in small series, alone, or combined with taxanes. We aimed to evaluate its activity as a single-agent in a larger series of patients with advanced angiosarcoma. We retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records of consecutive adult patients with advanced angiosarcoma treated with single-agent gemcitabine at our institutions from January 2010 to January 2021.

Physiological Evaluation of Anomalous Aortic Origin of a Coronary Artery Using Computed Tomography-Derived Fractional Flow Reserve.

Background With the emergence of coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography, anomalous aortic origin of a coronary artery (ANOCOR) is more frequently diagnosed. Fractional flow reserve derived from CT (FFRCT) is a noninvasive functional test providing anatomical and functional evaluation of the overall coronary tree. These unique features of anatomical and functional evaluation derived from CT could help for the management of patients with ANOCOR.

Blast injury of the hand related to warfare explosive devices: experience from the French Military Health Service.

Introduction: The objective was to report on the experience of the French Army Health Service in the management of blast injury of the hands related to warfare explosive devices.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in the Percy Military Hospital (role 4 medical treatment facility) among French soldiers who presented with a combat-related blast injury of the hand between 2002 and 2018. The functional result was assessed by the disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) and the Orthotics and Prosthetics User Survey (OPUS, upper extremity functional status) scores.

Everolimus induced mood changes in breast cancer patients: a case-control study.

Introduction The PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway plays a critical role in cancer cell growth, proliferation and angiogenesis, but also in brain homeostasis and the pathophysiology of mood disorders. The impact of the mTOR inhibitor everolimus on the mood of breast cancer patients is unknown. Materials and methods Consecutive, post-menopausal metastatic breast cancer patients receiving hormone therapy +/- everolimus were prospectively followed-up using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the MADRS (Montgomery and Asberg Depression Rating Scale) questionnaires.
